I appreciated your embedding your tribute into the artwork and your notes about your personal experiences with your boys in military museums. Your rhymed quatrains and repeats are quite effective. Best wishes in the contest- Joan

Serving the military is not an easy task when they have to leave their family behind; like you said, 'family hopes are vaporized'. We are thankful for their dedicated service. Great poem.

This is a commanding posting...the painting is so moving, and your poetic lines share the important message about the sacrifices made to keep our lives free. I think you're going to do very well in the contest, Yvette. xoxo

Wow, Janet -- this is such a wonderful surprise, ma'am!! ;) :) You have so given a warmth over some of the tears that threatened when I wrote some of those lines.... when we would visit the museums when the boys were younger and even as they grew up, I would have to really hold onto my emotions walking through some of those exhibits and low-lit hallways. These stars and your review are so very appreciated.... and here's sending some smiles back to you for the week ahead! ;) :) Take care! ;) Yvette

A very fine poem about the insanity of war and how it affects those loved one left behind. I too go to war museums often. Gettysburg, Bunker Hill... I will study war no more.

Beautifully done war poem because you carefully balanced the grief over losing the lives of these precious young people and at the same time you honor their sacrifice. The lines that stand out most to me are:
"fine lines blurred 'tween faith and command."
and
"that preserved peace outside these walls..."
Best wishes in the contest, Yvette!

Hey Yvette. When soldiers were drafted to go to war, not only did it change them, it changed the world. I was drafted during Viet Nam and it changed the trajectory of my life from that day. America has had too many wars for wrong reasons. That's all I'll say. Z
