The problem with war is undoubtedly the clear direction going to a conflict,
(The message is always manipulative, pride being in operation) but once in actual conflict on the battlefield, confusion as to why you're there sets, (true of WW1) Beautifully Written, looking through the eyes of a mum, you've captured beautifully, the pathos in your sweetly written work Yvette. With your interesting rhyme scheme, well done, blessings, Roy

Such powerful verse! How wise you were to teach your children the ravages of war by exposing them to history through these museums!
I love your quote: "Children will not avoid that which they do not know all the consequences of..." Tears brimming, I thank you for reminding us all.--Karenina

This is a well-spoken poem. Enjoyed reading it - felt the passion and the sorrow too. Good that you took your sons to a good war museum. Was so proud of our grandson who went with buddies to London, Paris, Berlin I think and Amsterdam. Their schedule included a good museum (not sure if it was the WAr Museum - I've been there and it was so impressive) - but they also visited a concentration camp. Felt they made good decisions.

I don't have the skill of reading poetry to explain exactly what gave me this from your piece, but it makes me stand in the past in exactly the same way the various war museums hereabouts do (there's a few, the channel islands were occupied by the Germans).

I felt the hair on the back of my neck stand on end when I got to:
'Within these walls, cold weapons lie,
were blooded by innocent hands -
their nightmares forged for duty's flag,
lines blurred between faith and command.'

Excellent work.

Within the walls that hold my heart I find the your words did impart, a smile, a tear, for those I hold dear. My friends smile in their rest, for you, my dear, passed the test, :) Yvette. It must be wonderful to be a teacher and learn from the best imaginations walking around. This is a very good entry for the War Poetry Contest.

Well done on this write, Yvette. The rhyme scheme you chose helped propel this one at a steady pace through the quatrains. Well done and good luck in this contest! Also, my boys also liked the war museums the best... but their all-time fave was the Spy Museum in D.C. :)

Such a meditative thought placed within a beautiful poem, Yvette. The scars of war run much deeper than through only those who fight the physical battles. Loved ones are often affected just as deeply.

Sometimes we just have to let the feelings speak for themselves, Rod -- was tough for this mom to keep her emotions in check sometimes on those museum tours. ;) :) Thanx for the review and have a wonderful week ahead! ;) Yvette :)

My sons and I have visited museums of every war. We felt the same way. We must never forget who pays for our freedoms. Lovely poem and presentation. Good luck in the contest.

This meets the contest requirements beautifully as you express the concept of peace by utilizing the horrors of war endured by our brave service people to protect and defend those at home. Good luck in the voting and thank you very much for sharing it.

Your well-written, beautiful, moving poem vividly emphasizes our freedom, how it was acquired--over and over--and why we should never stop appreciating those who fought for it.
