To Never Forget, To Never Relive

War museums & memorials exist for a reason... it's not glory

This poem, To Never Forget, To Never Relive, denotes the precious sacrifices made by men and women to preserve the state of peace within our borders and personal perimeters. Our investment of flesh and blood makes those commitments sacred.

The repetition makes this a heartwrenching story of a person lost to the war. It seems to be about the PSTD that many returned veterans suffer from and how it afftect the soldier and the family.
Good luck in the contest
Joan

I am so very glad to know that this one touched you, Joan -- it certainly was hard to get through it at some points.....these museums really put you 'there' with both the fighting men and those waiting for them back home.... Thanx for your review! ;) Yvette

Overall a great read but here's some picky thoughts 3of you don't mind:The word vaporized seems a little over the top to me. Visions echoing was an odd metaphor in my opinion. I think the first few lines would have read better if the words "there is" we're taken out.

This is a very good war poetry contest entry. I like the lines you have written. It is a display of what war is like. Very good work! Good luck in the contest!

Very pretty and very well written! So many wars. So many deaths. So many disabled and not being cared for the way they had always promised.
It's a shame that they can't count on the very people they fought for to keep them free and are the very people who should be helping now that their lives have been changed forever. No veteran should ever be homeless.

I am a huge fan of rhyming poems, especially war ones, and I did enjoy this immensely. It carried a tone of sorrow, regret and reverence also, which I truly appreciated.

We talk about war, read about it, hear about it and always quietly say, "never again" and yet, it happens over and over. Will we ever learn? Will the poems we've entered into this contest, and others, and also any we've published generally on FS ever have the effect we wish them to have?

We can only hope! I think you've produced a very strong contender in the contest, and wish you all the luck with this wonderful entry xoxoxox

Yvette, that is just marvelous. and good for you for showing your boys the effects of war and the sacrifices made by both combatants and their families. And bless them for being impressed and remembering. This is a powerful poem, beautifully written.
Well done and good luck.

Thanx so much for this wonderful review, Katharine -- not only did it bring tears writing the words but the memories of my 'big galoots' when they were younger didn't help the water works!! ;) :) LOL! Geeesh, girls! ;) ;) Take care over there, ma'am! ;) :)

the good men die young to serve in a rich man's war, history thinking back has no future my mother always said, because she lost an uncle and relatives, from the picture falling into your words you paint an excellent canvas
