A poem extolling the joys of friendship shared through the joys of fishing -atmospheric and evocative 'laughter and some timely tears, We shared here in the red spruce shade.'

You have met the requirements of this contest with a beautiful writing commemorating a lifelong fishing buddy that has passed on to the Land of Eternal Delight...which, of course, must include fantastic joy for anglers of all kinds. I wish I was fishing right now like those two guys in the wonderful photograph. Best wishes!

well, that rates a 6 for sure.
I loved it - every word.
Although it is sad that your friend is gone, your remembrances are warm and makes a gentle, pleasant read. Very good, sir.
And I'm sure he is saving you a spot.

Oh, Katharine, you made me smile and for that, I thank thee.... but, I gotta say, the 'sir' works for my Daddy but not for me (although my students might disagree sometimes - lol!) :) ;) :) Thanx for those wonderful stars, ma'am, and have a wonderful holiday celebration! ;) :)

This is definitely a masterpiece, and one that brings a lump to the throat of the reader. Old age can be a curse, especially when it brings the loss of very good friends. Your poem captures this sorrow without being over-emotional. I'm sure your friend would be very moved by this tribute. I also very much appreciated the excellent flow of the poem, it was a pleasure to read indeed! Good luck in the contest xoxoxoox

I love to fish, so this poem and graphic caught my attention. The poem is nicely done, even though I found it sad that you lost your fishing buddy. You did a very nice job on this - good luck in the contest!

A very sad poetic tribute to a lifelong fishing friend. We all lose friends over the years and one day we all face the fact that one day someone special will miss us.

Hello mystery writer. The poem has a great rhyme and meter and I really like metaphor of, " I know you're on Saint Peter's scroll... I like that because Christ said He would make Peter "a fisher of men." Well Done. Good luck in your contest.

This is a wonderful portrayal of enduring friendship and a shared interest, hoping to be reunited. I can see how you have utilised words and phrases to connect the two poems in a skilful way.

I love how you changed the topic from the original to a new text with an absolutely new context. I love the allusion to Saint Peter. Great use of words as well.
