"Octopus, A la carte", is an extremely well-written and delightfully descriptive piece. This talented poet's work was a pleasure to both read and review. You KEEP WRITING and I'll KEEP READING. I look forward to seeing your next post.

I've heard that octopus is a bit rubbery to eat. It holds no appeal to me, either. You have written a super poem for the contest and the final line is definitely funny but not funny. Way to go!

Ha - good one - and I totally agree - just to watch people cooking with it - eating it - gives me the willies. You have to cook it just so in order to make it chewable. I'm lucky if I can make a roast chewable - not about to try octupi.

This is certainly humorous and meets the contest requirement splendidly. The rhyme scheme is clever and not hackneyed. I enjoyed reading it, so thanks for sharing. Good luck in the contest judging.

I feel very strongly that whether or not to eat an octopus, is a personal decision, and should never be a bone of contention. Unfortunately, octopi have no say in the matter, or the question would be moot. Your stand on the issue is clear, perfectly legitimate, though hardly willy nilly. It's unlikely that anyone close to you will try to change your mind, or at least, no one within barfing distance.

What a sissy! You have to beat it for 12 hours on a rock to tenderise it, then cook it with really interesting things and eat it while blindfolded, spitting out the still-rubbery bits. Mmmmmm.

Hello mystery writer. In my opinion the only thing is bad as eating octopus would be toad on the half shell. After watching 20,000 leagues under the Sea as a child I know it's a squid but they're all the same to me. It's very funny poem and I love the last line but in the middle of the poem this was my favorite in context: "Of someone who ended up dead." Eating octopus could probably do that. Robert

Hi Mystery Poet,
I'm with you. As much as I love seafood, I'll stick to haddock, salmon, and tuna, scallops, shrimp, clams and mussels. That's it. No shark steaks for me. No eels either. And never octopus!
Of course, I shouldn't say "never". What if I fell off a cruise ship? Or if was the lone survivor of a jet that ditched in the middle of the Atlantic? Perhaps I would eat octopus until a shark ate me.
Your entry is definitely a fun poem. Maybe not so fun if you barfed on a neighbor though. But I like poems like this.
My favorite lines,
"I've watched people chew it
They seemed to live through it
But all I can see in my head
Are great giant tentacles
Crushing the ventricles
Of someone who ended up dead."
Good Luck in the contest!
cheers,
Kimbob

This about sums up my thoughts on eating octopus as well. It does look like something out of a witches brew. Why would you want to put something like that in your mouth? This is funny and well thought out. I've enjoyed reading this well written work. Well done!
