I like short chapters like yours and the way that you end the chapter leading the reader into the next part. The story is fun and keeps the reader wanting much more.

This is a fascinating taste of a magical fantasy world where gnomes and rose bushes come alive.
You set the stage with fine descriptive passages such as: 'There was a desk against another wall complete with some sort of eerily luminescent vine growing out of the top drawer. The vine had crept along most of the wall there. Here and there, were small, disorganized piles of equipment, bags, and other assorted junk'.
The dialogue is realistic and flows smoothly.
Great contest entry. Good luck.

Yvette, I like to read you. From you I loose myself in the fantasy world I like to relive. I forgot how it is to write the fiction, to share a meal with a worm and feel the caress of that fairy of delight. Where good may be evil and evil may be good. The pen says it all. This is a good story as well as all your stories. :) Thank you for sharing.

This is such a sweet story of the groundskeeper and magical place. So well written and dominator for the contest. The characters are rich and imaginative, and have natural banter back and forth. Love it!
Sending you my best today as,

Hooray!! :) So glad you enjoyed this one, Lady Sal -- you know my penchant for fantasy! ;) :) And although this one's aimed at a younger audience, it is real fun to imagine cool stuff like this no matter what our age, yeah? :) Hope the summer's winding down well for you ... school's back last week so it's back to the routine around here!! ;) Thanx for those wonderful stars, ma'am, and have a great week! ;) Yvette

You certainly stuck to your word and are only posting this fantastic story once a month!!! What can I say? I loved this part, the shed lit up for him, so he has been accepted! Now the garden will flourish too. The job is his now for keeps!! Is there going to be a contest every month? I was hoping you'd post more often, but I suppose I'm being greedy. Well done, and good luck in the contest, it's a brilliant chapter. :)) Sandra xx

Hooray!! :) So glad you enjoyed this one, my lady, and I'm glad I've got you where I want you... LOL!!! ;) :) Yeah, the contest is up for voting now and there's another one at the end of the month -- guess they're trying to 'speed us up' -- so, see? You don't have to wait as long!! ;) :) This is for a younger audience so maybe your nephew would enjoy something like this when it's done (but it'll be a little while now that school's back last week... ugh!) Back to the ol' routine around here!! ;) Thanx for those wonderful stars, ma'am, and have a great week! ;) Yvette

This is a great chapter and reads really well. The dialogue is very credible too. I didn't pick up any flaws and am looking forward to reading the next chapter.

Fascinating chapter!
I love Constantine. will have to read more of this.
You put a young boy in the position that you actually hold?
It is 1:30 and too late to be up.
Will comment further. later.

You are too funny, Lady Katharine -- appreciate your reading Constantine and Nicholas so late... it's probably better to appreciate them a bit on the 'sleepy' side of dreaming! ;) This one's aimed at a younger audience... but it is real fun to imagine cool stuff like this no matter what our age, yeah? :) Thanx for the review, ma'am, and enjoy the week ahead!! ;) Yvette

"...when, suddenly, a faint glow filled the entire space. I could see!"
then--
"...light cord, but I was unable to visually locate one. In fact, I didn't see any light at all."

Just a thought, but maybe I'd consider changing "any light at all" to something more specific -- light bulb?/source of light?

I guess I will have to go back and read the other two of this story that are posted... I'm intrigued. :))

A very well-written chapter. It seems the plants accept Nicholas as the new gardener and they work together tho make his job and little easier when the shed lightsome up without a light bulb.
