Nicely done! There isn't a lot of plot to this story, but that also makes it a nice read. It's wonderful to think mom may be watching over her son after her death. Thanks - good luck!

This is an excellent entry for the flash fiction contest. Your words are very descriptive. The scene, the characters, the action all are written to position the reader to view your vision perfectly. You have evoked the sense of sound, sight and tempo excellently. Well done.
You have repeated, "the driving to the cottage." In the second paragraph it is introduced, and in the sixth it is repeated. The second appearance is redundant.
