Beautiful poem steeped in nostalgia. It made me recall the favorite movies of my youth - Swiss Family Robinson and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I recall dollar movies but never only a dime.

I grew up in the fifties, too. It was a good time and so different from now. I remember going to see Bambi. We didn't have a television until I was ten. I wish you worlds of luck in the contest.

I agree - the '50s were a great period for kids to grow up. It was a different world and those of us who remember are in dispair for our world today. Good job. Thanks for sharing.

Willie,
I cannot read the body of your poem.
The words are squeezed together.

Please let me know if this is on your end too.
Blessings,
Cindy. Hope you're well, Willie.

What a lovely poem! Abbott and Costello are a favorite of mine that my dad shared with me! Poems where the writer reminisces always feel so wistful to me,, incredibly well written!

Lots of memories for readers to enjoy in this nostalgic verse. You name all the reasons we enjoyed these inexpensive jaunts to our favorite cinema. I would add a colorful box of chewy juicy fruits.

I LOVED THIS. I'm a bit younger than you, but I know all the names and love the old news reels, the songs (especially Sinatra and Crosby!) and the old, reliable movies. They had plot, pretty good acting and are 'golden oldies' for a reason.
But a dime? Wow... I don't remember THAT!
Blessings and thank you for an exceptional read,
Deb

Oh my gosh, thank you for posting this! I love everything about it, which yes, dates me, but so what. Your font is ridiculously perfect for this piece, your rhyme was spot on and your meter was bouncy and fun. You have a winner here!

This is really cool. I was a teenager in the late seventies and early eighties and back then they played two films in a row, but to tell the truth I don't remember how much it cost.
Thanks so much for sharing.

Through your simple words, I could really feel the nostalgia of the era you describe, even though I didn't live through that period. Even so, in my childhood days too, life and everything was far simpler and far more enjoyable than what we experience today. Well articulated. Thanks for sharing.
