A very well-written Tanka about the timeless refrain of theach cicada chorus that sings through the endless summer days until sundown.

Good luck in the tanka contest Yvette. I enjoyed the concept of this tanka with the comparison of daytime and night time and you did a great job using the different font colors to bring it together. The swing line was very appropriate. Very well done. Oh I liked the picture very much.

Thanx so much for your wonderful review, Alie -- twas yet another of my 'front porch offerings' this past week. :) I can never get these short forms to 'do' what they are prescribed to do, but it's certainly fun trying! ;) ;) Be sure to enjoy some front porch insect choruses of your own! ;) ;) Take care -- Yvette :)

Perhaps hearing a single stringed guitar and a few folk songs as the sun is setting would suffice Yvette? Your poem brought the gentle music here, love Dolly x

Ahhh... hold your breath ladies... here comes Yvette's romantic muse!!! ;) LOL Now honey... if you're ever looking for a house, I saw the perfect one last night. It's at the top of Sunset Drive... a lovely yellow farmhouse with a freshly painted red barn. On 200 acres (I'm told) I can't even begin to tell you about the view... toward Canada... O...M...G... Unbelievable!!! I hear it's only $750,000. I'm going to have to talk to Shawn. If you move to Vermont and make it your residence right now, they'll give you ten grand. Nope, not kidding. Vermont wants residents. I'd rather it didn't have them myself. I like the quiet country life... I don't want the cities popping up everywhere like all over the rest of the country. Sunset drive should stay the way it is... a dirt road with about 5 houses on it. :)

Thank you, Lady S, for these awesome stars -- they are such a lovely bright spot over here.... been trying to cloud up today which only makes for even more lovely humidity in the air...LOL! ;) :) A dirt road with only 5 houses sounds like heaven.... not sure how this little thing got paved cuz we've only got 7 and its narrow as can be!! ;) :) Thanx for the review, Beautiful Lady, and I hope you're still relaxing!! ;) ;) Yvette

This meets the contest requirements splendidly as you deliver a well constructed Tanka both structurally and technically. The first two lines paint the much needed concrete image, the third the required turn in perspective, and the last two a resolution / conclusion based on the new perspective. Good luck in the judging and thank you very much for sharing it.

Hi Yvette. I love the photo and it sets the mood perfectly for the singing cicadas. I like this verse and the reference to nature and the close of day. Well done, my friend.

WHAT a tanka! This has it all, creative, lovely words with a stunning photo to match. My favorite are the last two lines. Simply lovely and do not let anyone suggest any changes. This is perfection as it is. Good Luck and Great Job!

The color presentation of your tanka is striking, it blends perfectly with the accompanying artwork. The poem is one I can relate to, we get to enjoy the cicada chorus every summer here in NZ. Good luck !

Hooray! So glad you could relate to the chorus, Hitch -- thanx for stopping by on this shortie...nothing like your epic offering, yeah?! ;) ;) Take care in NZ down/under there, sir, and have a wonderful weekend! ;) :) Yvette

It's still winter here Yvette, no cicadas or insects of any kind really. the fire(wood burner) is going constantly, we have snow on the mountains which a all around us. You should check out some pictures of Taupo NZ where I live on line, it is a stunning beautiful place, cold in the winter though.

Well, if you hadn't added the whole 'cold in the winter' thing, I would have been ready to pack my bags, Hitch: it is breathtaking country, sir, even in all of the 2-D images! Would love to experience it in person... perhaps when the husband retires we can travel... :) :) Gorgeous homeland, there! ;) ;) Take care! ;)

Such a cool poem and beautiful picture! I like how you take us through a whole day and night in this tanka pivoting from the chorus of the cicadas with the silence of the middle line and ending again with youth's resounding psalms! Best wishes in the contest!

hooray!! :) I'm so glad you enjoyed this one, but I gotta say, the cicadas are wonderful to my Southern ears!! ;) ;) Funny how a consistently familiar sound has a way to ground you 'away' from the stresses hanging over your head! ;) ;) Thanx for the review, kahpot, and take good care of you! ;) Yvette
