I enjoyed this story very much because I have waited forever in a doctor's office. Amusing to think this dentist would take a movie break at the expense of his patient.

I did have to read the first paragraph a number of times because I found it confusing. Do you mean the other gentleman over there and not us over there as you have written? That's what I assumed, anyway.
