This all-dialog story is very well-written, colorful, moving, and entertaining. That crotchety old man has quite a personality, and the
patient doctor knows just how to handle him.

Whoa! This was heartening, and fun to read. I wasn't sure I was ready to read a fictional story, but your title and the line above it drew me in, and after I started reading it, I was engrossed the whole time. You did a wonderful job with a dialogue-only post. The meaningful banter, between the patient, and the doctor, made your point very well. Although you had a warning for language, I found that it added to the plot, so it was needed. The wording, was strong throughout, with no weak spots. I appreciate your notes at the end, giving credit to VA centers with their caring staff, where credit was due. Thank you for saluting the medical teams at all of the VA Centers. Well written and spot on with its message.
Take care, Jesse

Wow, Jesse -- you have just brightened my whole weekend, sir! I'm so very glad you enjoyed this one, sir, it was certainly a fun one to write. :) ;) Loved when I used to volunteer at one of the places near home and there was always one or two surly folks (male and female) that would really 'rag' you face-to-face' but that sang your praises to the staff... always made me laugh! :) ;) I did always admire the doctors and the nurses that could continuously smile and be cheery from morning til night, even when some of the patients were anything but "delightful" to them! :) ;) Thanx again for the review and those lovely stars -- take care, sir! :) Yvette :)

Volunteering for clinics always gives one, the insider's view of what really goes on, between staff and patients. I volunteered for a State Hospital for six months, and I learned, first hand, how the surly ones were treated with respect and kindness just like to other ones. "Bedside manner" is something that one either has or hasn't, and the patients can tell who cares and who is just doing the job. It's nice to sing praises for the hospital staff. They surely deserve it. You have a knack for writing dialogue-only stories, and it shows. The extra star was well deserved.

This story, Treating the Whole Patient, presented only in dialogue, finds a spirited conversation between the old colonel and the doctor. Keeping the old fellow flustered and argumentative seems to be what the doctor ordered.

Kinda makes you wonder why there's not some kind of 'Contest Designator' at the beginning rather than just at the end. ;) ;)

I live in a nursing home, so I hear this kind of d ialogue all the time. You caught it very well! I hadn't thought of VA Centers, but I'm sure it's quick similar. Physical therapists are wonders and miracle workers!

You did a great job, YM. Colonel just wanted to extend the time the nurse was in the room. He is lonely and needed someone to listen. He wanted to feel in control. She knows it nd plays along. Good job with the prompt. I enjoyed reading your story. It flows well. Thanks for sharing and caring. Best wishes. Jan

Great dialogue only write. You have hit the proverbial nail on the head here. Physical illness is only one part of the picture for many people. A listening ear and compassion goes a long way to healing.

Thank you for sharing this one

The Colonel is quite a character. I like it when he says he might have decided to go commando.

The doctor is quite sassy as well.

This is great dialogue. Very natural and lively.

Good luck in the contest.

If they have to beal with old codgers like the colonel they are certainly saintly and they're incredibly tolerant. A lot of doctors don't seem to care. Although I went to get some stitches out of my leg while in NY, the cost was $125, here it would cost nothing, but the service was super. an excellent entry in this dialogue contest, very difficult to do these, you've done well. Well done Yvette, good Luck. Blessings, Roy

Thanx, Sir Roy, for taking the time to read this one and understand it....I always worry that these aren't as 'understandable' to folks who aren't 'in my head' when I can't use words to describe what's in my head...LOL!! ;) ;)
The one down in New Orleans had a bad rep for a while, but it seems to have improved a bit lately. Hate that it's like that as you Vets deserve the best not the crappiest!! ;) ;)
I used to volunteer at one of the places near home (not V-A) and there was always one or two crotchety folks (male and female) that would really 'rag' you face-to-face' but that sang your praises to the staff... always made me laugh! :) ;) I did always admire the doctors and the nurses that could continuously smile and be cheery from morning til night, even when some of the patients were anything but "delightful" to them -- a true life example to learn from! :) ;) Thanx again for the review and take care down/over there, sir! :) Yvette :)

Quite a conversation - clear how everyone thinks and feels. I enjoyed reading it. A few things stopped me - the dropping off at middle of words...perhaps a few less would be better. Also the hehehe - not so many.
My opinion only - it's an entertaining read and I really like the ending.
