Excellent write on the wiliness of the coyote. I hope the roaming dog had a home to go to. When I lived in California it was best not to let your dog roam by itself due to coyotes. Best of luck in the contest. Marilyn

Thank you. Yeah in San Luis Obispo most folks allow their dogs to roam around on their "safe" property.

I love using true events to create stories with as sometimes they are the best. I look through news reports and print off brief pieces of the press that would make a good flash fiction.
The story is too much told and not enough shown. You are telling us about the situation and that sometimes can leave no room for he imagination. Add more details about the two animals, their look, their sharp razor teeth opened and their eyes concentrated on each other. - just a suggestion.
All in all, that is quite an experience and there is something mystical about it that can make a great tale.

Thank you for your review, but I believe you missed the bigger picture within the story. The purpose of the story was not to focus on the aggressive nature of animals but to show the more gentle and appreciative nature. Love makes the world go round.

Dear Mystery Author,
This was a really interesting story. So weird that it really happened. Lucky for that poor dog that you showed up when you did! No wonder he gave you a happy lick!
Couple of notes -
1.) 'coyote' does not need to be capped
2.) you switch tenses at the end. Stay the same. If you are in past tense, you must write the whole thing that way.
That's it. Good luck!

Thank you for your review, and suggestions.

That's actually a very interesting story. Coyotes have become very populous in many parts of the country. They are not nice doggies like the one that licked your hand. That's a pretty remarkable finish to the story. Good work.

Thank you for your review and nice comments.
I think it was an allegorical message from the divine. I was lost trying to find the resort that was buried in the deep woods of Crows End. It was an adventure just finding the place, and just when I thought I was on the right track, the coyote and dog appeared.

I am so glad you were able to save the dog from what may have been great injury. Dogs are so smart. The fact they he had to thank you before he let you pass is so sweet. Well done, hope you do well in the contest. rox

Thank you for your review. I think the dog was senile. He looked old. I think that coyote was going to eat him.

This made a entertaining story. It was fortunate you were there to scare the coyote away. Luckily we don't have them in Australia. Good luck in the contest.

What no coyotes in Australia. But you do have Kangaroos, and I heard they like boxing. Thank you for your review.

We do have dingos (more or less wild dogs) but they are only in certain areas.

I hear coyotes are abundant in the west, even in California suburbs. No one's cat is safe outside let alone small dogs.
You were lucky to not have been attacked.
Good luck in the contest on your well written entry.

That's true if you live in heavily wooded areas. My friend lost 4 of her cats to coyotes. It was horrible.

So glad that you were safe and that your honking helped Mr. Handsome Dog. (cute way of distinguishing between the two!) And you found a perfect picture, too. Best wishes in the contest!

You probaby saved that dog's life. I'm sure he was very grateful. There seems to be a lot of coyotes around these days, even in the city. I'm glad you were able to run that one off and save the dog.

Thank you for taking time to review my work. Yes, coyotes are everywhere in California.

This is an interesting insight to interactions between 2 animals and an animal and human one. Your kindness helped the dog and you calmed him down. Your meditation interests are having wider impact.

Thank you for your review. Yes, meditation opens up the channels for interacting the animals and frankly, understanding them better.

Being calm has a lot to do with understanding any situation, I have found.
