Boy, am I with you on that! I think the libs have lost their ever lovin' minds!
Changing the subject - just a little - if you get Netflix, there is a series on called The Designated Survivor which is excellent. It is political, fiction, but the Pres is an Independent, honest and honorable and it is very good. My granddaughter told me about it and when she comes to SA to visit from UT, we watch it together. He is very patriotic but is constantly being lied about and what he says they take things out of context - very much like what's going on now.
Your pride in our country reminded me of it, so just thought I'd mention it in case you were interested.

Katharine thank you for the review. I have seen most of the survivor series and it is good. Lies in politics is every day.

yes. you're right, unfortunately.

I think people forced to leave their homelands too often retain a loyalty to those places. It is where their loyalty remains and our money goes. I do not think many of them would die for our land. Excellent poem.

It is hard not to love where you are from and I agree with you. Yet, most that are born free are Americans just like our forefathers.
Comment from country ranch writer
Everyone wants to come to America but they do not want to adjust to our ways like our ancestor before us did. I am proud to be an American born and Brest. I honor our men and women who have given their life so we can stay free.

Thank you Country. Glad you liked it. :)

A deeply passionate poem that speaks of loyalty for the land of your birth. I like that you start with the fact of being "born and raised an American" and end with love for the country. Well said!

This is an excellent piece as well as author's note for Independence Day. For some, being grateful for our country is not in their wheelhouse. One should always cherish their country. Sadly there are those who do not. Marilyn

Thank you Marilyn. I wrote this for the spirit that loves his country and freedom so much so that it comes back from the dead. :) That's what I call loving your country.

Congratulations on your placing with this poem. It is a well-penned personal account of deeply felt 'proud insanity' through sacrifice. How you have interwoven the red, white and blue and the stars is very skilfully done. You have captured the patriot's spirit of battle flowing from generation to generation well too.
Perhaps the last line could be put in italics for emphasis? It does not end with a rhyme and on initial reading I was trying to mentally make it rhyme with something. The rest of the poem is well linked.

Thank you LisaMay. I know what you mean by the last line. Yet, you got to understand that this is a warrior of another time and he/she don't write by the rules, but bends the reality by coming back in spirit to fight for its beliefs. :)

Good luck in the contest Jose. This was indeed a great contribution to the memories and celebration of Independence Day and an amazing tribute to those who have and those who will fight. Being Canadian our day is July 1st but the same thoughts and principles. Very well done.

Wow, Jose -- what a great job you've done weaving the colors and the symbols of the Fourth into your poem about the fights that have kept us free -- just beautiful, sir!! :) :) Thanx for sharing and best of luck at the polls! ;) Yvette

You know why I like this? I may be totally off on your intended interpretation; however, the last five lines of this wonderful poem have me imagining that the fallen soldier's spirit, having so much love for his country, even after the death of the flesh, hears the cry for battle, leaves the tomb enclosed body, flows into another woman's body, giving birth to a new bodily home for the spirit, that spirit once again, growing and maturing until it is once again ready to fight for its precious America.
Now, I know that was a long grammatically incorrect sentence, however, I just didn't want to stop my flow of thought.
This is a great contest entry, and I wish you the very best!

This is a beautiful ode to Independence Day that you've shared here. The freedom that was fought for was paid for with the blood of our protectors who fearlessly answered the call. I enjoyed reading this spirited and well written work. Well done!
