Writers of poetry and authors of prose alike hate nothing more than to have a blank page staring back at them.
Like storm clouds that fill the culverts, creeks and rivers with water that's fed into the seas, so too must a writer fill a page with words fed from their imagination.
Good 5-7-5 entry with a clear, strong message.

This 5-7-5, Essentials, has the right set up and finds a comparison between the parched earth and the need of wit upon the barren page.

Thank you, Bill. Loved "wit upon the barren page". Pretty much a poem right there! I appreciate your comments. Thanks.
Comment from C. Gale Burnett
Oh ... I love this; comparing the earth's need for rain to the parchment's need for ink. In return, each in different ways gives something back to the world.
'Beneath the poet's witness' ... that could be an eloquent way of expressing me as I look down at a lined, blank sheet of paper, and the paper is saying, 'What's up? Give me the ink!'
Seriously, I absolutely love this poem; it's thought provoking, beautifully illustrated, having been given a wonderful title. This is a FANTASTIC contest entry, and I wish you the very best.

Wow! You are the only person to make reference to "Beneath the poet's witness." I actually got a 4 star review because of this line. This is such a beautiful review and I appreciate so very much. Thank you.
-
I'm sorry, but I will never understand you getting 4 stars for this beautifully written poem, and I do not say this just to make you feel better. If I had had a six star to give you, I would have.
Maybe this will make you feel better: I've occasionally gotten a four star rating from a reviewer that had given me raving reviews.
-
Thanks! So sweet. I don't think I've ever gotten a 4 star review before. Because of it I had to get additional reviews to get to the front page. She liked the second line but didn't think it worked with the other two. ??? What can you do? Thank you again for your killer review. Loved it!

Hello mystery writer: that is a very good analogy comparing the paper that a poet writes upon to the earth that grows fourth the vegetation and ink becomes the agent that makes the poetry grow.

Thank you, Robert. So glad you 'got' this. Squeezing this concept into 17 syllables was challenging. Thanks for this lovely review. I appreciate it.

So true eh? Think heard something about "vellum" today. Apparently the highest form of parchment. Something, a course one of many things, I did not know! Luck!

You have made truly excellent use of all your syllables in this 5-7-5. This is one of the best, and most meaningful, similes I've ever read, and I've read thousands. Great tribute to the art of poetry and to poets.

Dear Mystery Poet,
This poem is almost perfect. Of course, that's MY opinion. hahaha And we know what that is worth. hahaha That second line just didn't resonate with me - but the opening and closing lines were AWESOME!
I wish you a lot of good luck in the voting. Thanks for sharing!

This has a 'Shakespearean' feel to it for me. It made me stop and think a moment, rather than just click and move on to read the next entry in this contest. The words are deep and beautiful, and the artwork you found is the perfect complement for them. REALLY nicely done, Mystery Poet! Good luck to you. xo
