This well-written piece makes excellent use of specific details to describe
the messes mothers have to deal with on a day-to-day basis. I like the upbeat lines about being tolerant.

Thanks for your comments, Janice. Maybe I should have put more upbeat lines in... there's rather too many complaints!
-
Oh, no, I thought the balance
was just right!

It was honest at least.

A very true statement about the life of a working parent. There is always so much to do and never enough hours in the day.
You express the up and downs of raising children. The good, the bad, the messy, and the love you get for it in return. This piece reminds you to not take it all for granted.
Good luck

Thanks for your comments, Mia. Perhaps I spent too much time moaning in the poem and not enough on the benefits and love.

Oh yes, mom/dad. . .because this too shall all pass. It truly does help though for children to HELP keep their stuff organized, but here again. . .it's more work for us, initially anyway. Incentives help, putting music on and seeing if WE can get it cleaned up by the end of the song helps, using a cleanup chart with a prize at the end of the week for work well done, helps but I promise you. . .one day you will look back and wish they were back to that age again when their creative play included messes. :) Nice job with the writing. :) You're doing good mom/dad.

Thanks for your comments - they are all excellent strategies! I like that they involve the family, music, and incentive. Creativity is to be encouraged, not tidied away.

That is so true, I remember shoes. . .in every room of the house where my youngest daughter had been. Having taught pre-school, there is value in children organizing their belongings. It's kind of like organizing their thoughts. . .but the is so much more vallue in creative play. :)
-
well. . .my note went. I wanted to finish a word "their". Oh well. :)
-
So true... in several aspects: learning to be responsible and organized, and enjoying creativity.

KInd of too much complaining before she say's she'll turn a blind eye to it.
If she spoke of 'him' instead of 'you and your' it would be more internal thought ... not said to the child.
Other than that. The form is fine.

Thanks for reviewing. You are right, it is a bit too much of a parental rant. I don't have kids myself so have never been subjected to someone else's mass untidiness. This is based on what a friend was telling me about her own household situation.

Hi mystery writer: I started laughing when I saw the picture because years ago I saw something very similar to that while I was standing in the middle of it. Then I read your poem. The rhyme and meter was really good and I like the message. At the end you wrap it all up and say you're not gonna let that mess cause any problems. Asking to be blind to it was probably a good idea. -Robert-

There was probably too much complaining in my poem before it was put aside for playtime on the floor. it isn't based on my own reality as I don't have any kids, just observing others. Some people get hung up about tidiness and miss the fun.

I liked it.

A very well-written poem about the children that are definitely not made for someone who is a neat freak and cannot stand to be around germs, they will either run away or give in and play with their children in the mess.

Running away is a bit extreme... they should get the place hygienic at least, then relax about the untidiness and spend time with the kids.

Ha! You did a great job trying to describe and keep up with a messy kid. LOVED the picture. My boys' room looked just like this. It was only after finding an apple core on the floor that I snapped and made them clean it. I like how you ended this. One smile and big brown eyes and all is forgiven. Very true. This was soooooo cute! Lynda

This seems like a parental lament more than a children's poem LOL. The rhyme and meter are consistently solid throughout making for an enjoyable and entertaining read. Good luck in the voting and thank you very much for sharing it.

Yes, you are right... it is a bit top-heavy with grumbles but it all comes right by the end with playtime. Thanks for your review.

Oh the wonderful memories you just brought back. I remember my motto used to be "clean house - happy kids - take your pick." All too soon they grow up, you can clean house then.

How sensible to separate the activities. Having a play room is the perfect solution.
