You did a great job with your dialogue only contest. I enjoyed reading it. I like the use of the two colored font to identify speakers. Poor Mary. She lost her mind 35 years ago and now is in a home for the insane presumably. Best wishes.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

It's so sad when "loss of memory" happens, I would surmise it might be termed "selective" memory, when yesterday is an endless succession of "today". It's very sad but it's almost becoming old hat these days. Well done Denis, excellent entry in this contest. Good luck. Blessings Roy

This is fascinating dialogue, although I don't know whether this kind of selective memory loss can really exist, or whether someone could survive 35 years and function enough to stay alive. And the persistent pursuer is sure patient. In any case, it is a short tragicomedy that held my interest, even though I don't know where to file it.

Thanks, it's a repost and I think it was an entry in a dialogue only contest a few years ago...and I agree 35 years is a bit of a stretch. Thanks for reviewing, much appreciated, Dennis

Good luck with the contest. I've never had much luck with this one. I love the edgy dialogue in this installment. It really makes you take notice of the characters when there is fiery interaction. I looked for a weakness where one says something simply to explain something that wouldn't belong. Looks good to me.

Really well done. Sad story of one who can't face the truth. Sometimes that's very hard to do. Very well written, I see no errors and hope you do well in the contest. Rox

A sad poem but with very truthful elements. It's sad that a person can just block something like that, must not be a nice way to live at all. Best of luck in the contest!

A very well-written diaogue between brother and sister who is still waiting for here loved one to return from the war for 35 years and keep blocking the news of his death in her mind for the past 35 years.

I would have given you six stars, but I've used them up. I think this is such a clever response to the dialogue-only prompt. I especially like the line about the only brush with royalty.

Most interesting - from the mind of a person ignoring the truth. And obviously living in a home for the mentally disturbed. You wrote this very well - I can see it clearly.

Thank you! Do you think "ignoring" is the best word to describe her condition? Just curious...not trying to be defensive or argumentive.
reply by Gail Denham on 07-Jun-2019
Hmmm - if not ignoring - is it being blocked from her memory? Or is there a problem with her memory. Perhaps I don't understand the whole thing.

I'm looking at as a trauma so deep in her heart (the loss of the love of her life) she went into some kind of involuntary mental blocking of the truth.
In this conversation, a glimmer of light gets through but is once again blocked by the habit of denial. Thanks, just thinking out loud...Dennis

aha - so that's it. it's a mental block - well it does affect some that way. sure get a lot of different insights here on Fanstory.
