This is a beautiful poem. You've expressed a mother's love (your mother's love for you) so well here. My mom was my greatest champion, too. I'm sorry you lost both parents last year. Your poem is touching and tender. Congratulations for your win. Marilyn

Thank you for the lovely review, Marilyn. I don?t think one ever really gets over losing one?s mother.

I agree.

What a beautiful poem, that literally has me in tears. My deepest condolences on the passing of your parents. While my mother is still with us (in body if not quite as much in mind), my father, too, passed away in February of last year. While I've learned to cope, I still miss him every day, and my daughter still hasn't gotten over his passing.
Your love, admiration and gratitude for your mother show in every line of your poem, and are a lovely thing to see. Not all children (my daughter at the top of the list) recognize what they have when they have it. I'm happy for you that you were able to see and appreciate all that your mother felt and did for you and that, as a result, you and she had such a lovely relationship. Enjoy the memories; they will sustain you.
From a technical perspective, your poem reads smoothly and your rhymes all work well.

Michele, I deeply appreciate your comments and review. My mother wasn?t with us mentally too well either, but she never forgot me and my sister. She couldn?t get past my dad dying. They were very dependent on each other. She had a massive stroke in the nursing home, and I?m sure it was a blessing for her, but what an empty spot it left in my heart! I don?t care how much you know they are in a better place, and how happy you are they are with their loved ones, there is nothing to describe waking up the day after their gone and realizing you are waking to a world without your mother in it.
I?m so glad you resonated with that message. And thank you for the technical review, my friend!

This is a lovely tribute to your mother. I'm so sorry for your loss, to lose both parents within a short space of time is doubly tragic. I'm sure she loves this poem. Well done and good luck. )) Sandra xx

Thank you, Sandra! It was hard on me and my sister to lose both so close together, but infinitely better for them. They both sort of went downhill together, and when my stepdad went first, my mother just couldn?t get over it. They were insuperable. They had been married 35 years.
Thank you for your sweet review!!

That must bring you comfort, knowing they are together again. Mine are, too. xxx

I would give you six if I had any left. This is a beautiful tribute to your mother. I lost my mother years ago, but I know the feelings of such a loss.
The feeling always worsens on Mother's Day. Very good contest entry.

Thank you so much, Willie! I?m sure there are worse things than losing your mother, but not much! A beautiful light was lost in my world.
I do so appreciate you!

And I'm sure if she could be here now and read it, she would touch your hand and smile, thank you and plant a kiss on you. One of those poems that I hope many will be able to relate to as far as the love and affection a mother and child should have.

Thank you, Friend! I am warmed by your words. It?s almost like you could see her yourself reaching out, and you helped me see, too. Thank you so very much!!! The beautiful six stars reach her where she is and right in my heart!

Comment from Patty Palmer
A beautiful poem of a parents love lasting through the years until the mother's death, as the grown child says good bye to the mother. Pretty poem.
"Keep on, keeping on!"

There's no greater earthly love than the love a mother has for her children.
And rightly so, I might add.
A mom will forsake boyfriends, their spouses, the school principal--whoever--to shelter and protect her kids.
The mother in your poem nearly gave up her life for her child.
Thank goodness it didn't come to that.
Nice entry, good rhyming.
Best wishes to you in the Gratitude Poetry Contest.
