Firstly, congratulations on your second place in the contest! On reading this, in my humble opinion, I think this was a winner! I hope I don't offend anyone else saying that, but this had what I truly love in stories: a twist, or at least, an unexpected ending.
Great work, thanks for putting a smile on my face!

So glad you enjoyed Scott and his Paw-Paw, Gypsymoon!! ;) :) In my opinion, the 'skip-a-generation' relationships are a very important part of young lives! ;) :) Thanx for stopping in and take care out there! :) Yvette

It seems the mother is more ready to have the grandpa to be in a home than the grandpa and grandson are. The boy seems happy to share his room.
Congrats on placing second in the contest.

Your touching story about this touching relationship is quite believable, and we are rooting for Paw Paw to be accepted at the rest home, even though it means no more shared bedroom. I am glad your Flash Fiction was well received in the contest, and happy Memorial Day weekend- Joan

Thank you, Joan, for the special review for Scott and his Paw-Paw... I think these 'skip a generation' relationships are so very important and their lack is part of the reason the younger ones seem to be going off the rails so quickly.... but that's just me, I guess! :) ;) ;) Take care and have a wonderful week ahead! ;) Yvette

You make a very good point--I am glad my son had the opportunity to share these important relationships. Smiles- Joan

How refreshing! A youngster more than happy to share his life with Granpa! I loved this. If only everyone appreciated the older members of their family as much as this young boy. Best wishes in the contest, but you don't need them. You have a winner here!

Wow, Carla! :) So glad your heart agrees with mine on this one: kids need their grandparents!! ;) ;) Once the pen started on this one, it just had to be! ;) ;) Those stars are just a bonus to seeing your face again, though -- thanx for the wonderful review and welcome back! :) Yvette

I saw you placed in the contest with this piece! Second, I believe? Congratulations! Well deserved.

This seventy-five-word story, One Man's Blessing, has the correct word count and has a delightful ending which shows the bond between Paw Paw and his adoring grandson. Charming tale.

-Great image and
a very nice story, Yvette.
-You set the story up very
well with Paw-Paw not
being accepted in the
exclusive Golden Acres!
-You continue with
the sadness of this
almost to the end.
-The ending was
worth the wait-make
that "no wait" for Paw-Paw!
-Very well done; good luck!

Oh, Pam, I'm so glad you enjoyed Scott and his Paw-Paw.... I was recalling how wonderful it was to watch my dad interact with my boys when they were young. ;) ;) I only wish more of these 'skip generation' relationships had a chance in our modern world! ;) Yvette

What a super-sweet story! His grandson loves having him in their house, and Grandpa loves being there. They wouldn't admit that to the mom, though. LOL! This is such a brilliant idea. Wish I had thought of it. May I buy your muse? Or do you rent her out?

Oh, Phyllis...THANK YOU! :) So glad you enjoyed Scott and his Paw-Paw.... brings back such warm memories when I think of my dad interacting with my boys when they were young...
Oh, and you don't want my muses... yes, that's plural - mine's either more than one or the one has multiple personality disorder.... they/it are/is waaaay too temperamental and high-maintenance! ;) Let's just say ours is quite a rocky relationship... :) :)
You take care, ma'am, and have a great upcoming weekend! ;) Yvette

This is really good and very sweet. The lad and his paw are enjoying the fun times they're spending together. Forget about Golden acres. The lad would be content to keep him there with him for the rest of his days. I enjoyed reading this well written work. Well done!

So glad you enjoyed Scott and his Paw-Paw, Jeffrey -- used to love to see my boys interact with my dad when they were younger! ;) ;) Thanx for your review, sir -- always good to hear from you! :) Yvette
Comment from Alex Rosel
A lovely piece of flash fiction. I wasn't aware of the twist until I re-read this for a third time. That's neat construction :)
Maybe the first two paragraphs can be combined. I wasn't sure who was talking to who in the second paragraph -- or maybe that's intentional :)
I'm not sure how these contest are judged, but you might like to check your word count.
Good luck in the competition :)
