This quatorzain sonnet, A Cow Pony, has the proper formatting and reaches into one's heart as the reader sees the symbolic steed, days of glory past, waiting alone with only memories as company.

I love the sentiments in your story Nancy and I wish you luck with the contest, it is good to know these old horses get to live out their days in relative peace, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Great poem! Thanks for reposting it. I enjoyed reading it. It has a nice steady rhythm and good rhymes, and it tells a sad but good story.I can picture the cowboy on this horse, twirling his rope. Blessings. Carol

What a truly beautiful but sad poem. I feel sorry for his loneliness and abandonment when he has given many years to doing his job well. This sort of neglect grieves me greatly. Beautifully written.

Animals can be as loyal as or more so than humans. And it is obvious you have a deep love for horses. This is a touching tribute to the hardworking horses that work on the farms and ranches. And to those who are pets.

Thank you for revising this poem, Nancy. Your love for horses shines through in this verse. I have always loved reading stories and poems about horses. Your last verse seems to speak about us as we get old, sometimes we feel life is over. But God still loves us and has work for us to do. Keep writing.

I know I feel much that way ,Anne. LOL Most of my friends and family have passed away and I am on oxygen 24/7, going blind and deaf; yet I am still here. Not much I can do, but I thank God for every day. I hope you enjoy your day. Hugs Nancy:)xxx

I am so sorry you are facing such health problems, but am glad that you are still willing to share on here and bless others.

This is a great poem about a horse that has nobly done its work and done its best as well. I liked it from beginning to end. The only thing I noticed was a missing apostrophe in the fourth line: twilights end. I would say: twilight's end. Since this is close to cowboy poetry, I won't say anything about adding commas.

Thank you for reposting this for us. I'm sorry I missed it the first time around. I don't know how I did, but I did. I enjoyed reading. I have never owned a horse, but do think they're very special.

Awe. That broke my heart. I love your romantic style of poetry, but the western style is probably my favorite. Didnt you write a novel about a girl on a ranch? I remember loving that. Another fabulous poem. Gretchen

I enjoyed your poem about the cow pony. I could see the past clearly when he worked with his friend. I'm thinking his friend might be out to pasture, too. You could wrap a whole story about the cow pony!
