I do believe that God is sat at the way we've treated the Earth that is put humans in charge of. I don't have an answer but I'm sure we need to do something. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for putting the alarming extinction of species and climate change in focus and detailing why correcting them should be our government's primary goals. Keep sweeping, my friend! -Joan

:)) You're the best! Thank you, Joan.:)
Comment from Gloria ....
Very nicely written op-ed Dawn. I don't suppose it will change anyone's mind because those who think the weather changes are entrenched in their belief that the planet has been through this before. The fact is, it hasn't because of the difference between climate and weather.
I was somewhat surprised to learn that thrown away clothing is a huge polluter as I hadn't really considered it before but it makes sense. The nuisance grounds are filling up far beyond predictions and as you so rightly state human refuse encroaches on the natural habitats of other species forcing them to move closer and closer only to be shot.
I have no idea what the solution is, but I expect we should begin with the obvious and at least agree on the facts and get rid of the conflicting sides. Even at that there will remain many solutions, but at least the arguments about the facts would stop... maybe lol
Another superb write from your quarter, informative and understandable. :)

Absolutely -- I agree. Climate affects weather, but 'there are none so blind...' And yes, at least acknowledging the reality would be a good start!
Beas Peas has a theory that I think is likely right on the money, or at least partly -- overpopulation. There are simply too many of us to sustain; then again, if we were more concerned with cleaning up and maintaining our home...
Thank you SO MUCH, Gloria. I'm at a loss to express just how much I appreciate you!

Hi Dawn. This is a well written piece, but no one dares to address the elephant in the room. It is earth overpopulation. Every female born and of childbearing age is capable of having at least one child. With so many people and still procreating exponentially, we are outgrowing our earthly home at the expense of all other creatures as well as ourselves. And--we have nowhere else to go.
We have reached the carrying capacity for earth, which means humans are as a runaway virus killing its host. World leaders know this, but don't dare bring it up because that would be the end of their career. A newscaster mentioned it briefly the other day and was promptly schluffed over. The first Earth Day in the 70's brought it up, but people had a fit so Earth Day has never mentioned it again. Back in the 70's if it had caught on, we could have gotten some control. Now to change the mindset is impossible. Third world countries are the worst for overpop.
All other attempts to get our environment under control without addressing world overpop are like putting a Bandaid on a severed artery.

Yes, you've expressed this idea to me previously, and I do think you've a valid theory. Thanks very much, Marilyn. :)

A very well-written article, our planet is in danger by the hands of man, and man try for years now to correct the mistakes of the past but they still piling up mistakes instead of doing anything better.

Wow! This is a wonderfully written appeal, Lady Dawn!! ;) Really love you're chosen 'hook' there in the beginning that gets set by the time you finish up with that great closing! ;) ;) I'm betting you could probably get this published somewhere...;) ;) Thanks for sharing! ;) Yvette

Thanks very much, Yvette. I appreciate the encouragement, and yes, I agree. I've had a few things published, although op/eds are often much more difficult as media usually employs its own editors.
Anyway, to publish traditionally, one has to submit (lol), and I've been horrendous about submitting anywhere for far too long. I NEED to get off this site--quit 'entertaining' myself and do some serious work!
Again, thank you! I deeply appreciate your support.

They will have to make rules or laws with stiff penalties before most people will listen. Our city is just starting a campaign to recycle and I was very happy to see that happen. As for the lost species I don't doubt there are some, but I would challenge them to name that many. LOL I agree Dawn. We should "Just do It" Nancy:)

I'm quite sure they could name that many, at least on the low end of the two scales they mention. They are a reputable outfit. You aren't familiar with the World Wildlife Federation? (Maybe I should have spelled it out instead of using the acronym.)
I'm surprised, too, that your city is so late to start a recycle/reuse campaign -- it's been decades in the making. Then again, we are still having problems with ours here -- people still not recycling properly -- adding garbage etc.
As for 'just doing it', even small changes that become routine are not that hard to do and make a huge difference (and some even healthier for the person). That will be my next op/ed probably.
Thanks very much. :)

Dawn. You hit me where I live with this write. Your passion is fricken awesome. That's not very Christian i guess, but I'm not very Christian. Not in the 'go to church every Sunday and reserve my spot' sort of way. I am a 'do unto others' sorta guy.Dunno that Jesus or his old man will have much to do with my passing. Reckon Satan will have first dibs :-) Great write - DJ

I don't believe that for a second. If I did, I guess I am in big trouble too. I am leaning on this (and don't ask me to quote the Scripture to back it up because that will mean my day spent looking for it): to 'qualify' for eternal life, all we need is faith the size of a grain of mustard and a willingness to profess it.
The Old testament and the New are worlds apart -- Christ was sent to earth to save us from ourselves, to intercede on our behalf (because we are -- to borrow your word -- fricken idiots/can't help ourselves). I don't go to church out of any obligation -- I go because it is the only place I am happy, the only place I find peace (and even there I've had my moments).
God bless you, my friend. I think you are safe. XX Deborah Dawn

You go girl, the problem is, we have been brainwashed to think all is good. It is just a cycle we are going through. WEll, I for one know it is not just a cycle, too much has been lost. Loved the way you infused our Lord's word to emphasize our travels

Great post, Dawn. And the topic is so important. How can we be so stupid?
We are destroying ourselves at the same time we destroy Mother Earth.
And some of our politicians even dare say climate change is not real...
Thanks for sharing and caring.
