This shows good character development and a strong plot point. It shows the danger of getting too close in the spy business. It seems his dreams about a life with Helen are being forced on him. Will Helen do it though. Maybe under pain of death. It would be great if Helen stormed back in just now.
Congrats on placing in the contest.

Hi Tony,
This is a fine chapter filled with intrigue, surprise and reluctant acceptance.
Well planned and paced and a surprise ending.
A fitting book of the month entrant.
Blessings

Wheels within wheels. My comments are redundant. This remains a terrific and very well controlled write. Terrific? Only 12 year-olds say "terrific". The pen remains way past impressive. Great read - DJ

Great chapter Tony and a drama filled one to follow the night of love.
It is certainly an up and down road that Helen and Charles travel on.
cheers,

bad.' Maybe I'm right??? Interesting turn of events. Thanks for sharing. Jan

Hello Tony,
"Perhaps I should have left it there." If only we could advise ourselves.
Helen has one fiery temper.
Excellent sneaky scene with Jeanne creeping in. Charles, like Bond, seems to have nine lives. I hope he's keeping track of them, there can't be too many left.
Ah, the diary. A bit of thin logic on Jeanne's part. How could the dairy be any safer than locked up in Charles' possession?
But that is quite a chapter ending statement: "mend your relationship and marry her before we send you into the Hindu Kush."
Things seem to be coming to a head and loose strings are being tied up very well.
Intrigue! So off to Pakistan.
Outstanding work!

-You could say that this is a
very explosive chapter,Tony.
-You created suspense and
tense moments very well.
-Charles sure does get in
the middle of situations!
-The scene when Jeanne is
the one he assumes is Helen
is developed very well.
-You make it very easy
to dislike her, too.
-She always answers or acts
in a threatening manner; I guess
that makes her a good villain!
-You do a good job in bringing the
journal back to the forefront of the story.
-It will be interesting to see how that
plays out in the upcoming chapters.

All good here. Am up in Queensland at the moment trying to get a few things sorted out for Anna?s house. Didn?t much enjoy driving over 2000 km to get here though!

I think you ratcheted up the excitement level in this one, you have that altercation with Helen, and the argument really came to life with lots of emotion in the voices, and that table shoved at Charles. Then in comes Durand, with all this secret service intervention, laying out the conflicting motives of all these players. She really cuts in with force, and lays on the table, through the lively dialogue, how involved Charles is in all this, holding the diary, and screwing up the movement of the whole operation by spilling the beans. You have put Charles in some hot water. estory

Well, all that was a bit unexpected! I only picked up a couple of small points. We're in the middle of France so time is a bit short. :)
Helen's hand tightened, scrunching the paper napkin by her plate and when she looked up at me, I could see that her eyes glistened. - maybe delete 'I could see that'.
She motioned with the handgun for me to sit on the sofa. There go those wishes, galloping off into the sunset again." - delete speech marks
Kind regards. Judy
