I so enjoyed reading this wonderful story/poem about a beloved mother and the remembrances she gifted a loving daughter. Yes, somethings in life remain the same....

Thank you so much for your encouraging review. My mother died over six years ago but she daily can me into my consciousness.

Just an amazing piece. You spoke so softly with sadness and pride within your tone. The picture you painted was beautiful and it brought a smile to my face. The love of your mother was felt, it was generous and caring. Great Job!

Such lovely sentiments you've expressed here in your reminiscent, sentimental tanka prose poem for the Mother's Day Poetry Contest, Janet.
I believe those we love dearly--like a parent or spouse--who have passed on before us have a way of making their presence known to us.
It's not only comforting it's quite often needed at times.
Best wishes to you in the contests outcome.
And happy Mother's Day to you as well.

Thank you Dean for this stellar review and special sixth star. I am so pleased that you liked it.
I think you are right, those who have gone on before us have a way of making their presence know. This has happened before, especially with my mother.
I loved your analogy with the cracked pots. Excellent example.

You're more than welcome, Janet.

This is a deep emotional poem. I could see your point that some people change and others stay the same. At least that is what I think you intend to tell. I don't know. This poem is beautifully written. Nice work!

I enjoyed reading your tanka prose poem. The prose is heartfelt
and lets the reader experience your vision and feelings.
Isn't it wonderful we have these reminders of our mothers!
Your Tanka captures the feelings so well.
Good luck in then contest.

What a lovely tribute to your mother. I love the generational continuation, "her treasures are now my treasures too. " These precious memories are great to pull out and remember. Makes their passing a little more ok. Tanka at the end is beautiful and pulls it all together. Hugh

Lovely tribute to your mom - down to earth, talking about some of the concrete memories. Cracking the watering jug, drinking from one of her prized cups. Those memories live in the small things. That's why we keep some of the special things.
I was thinking this type poem was a halibun? Anyway - it is lovely.

Thank you Gail for this stellar review and special sixth star. I am so pleased that you liked it.
A haibun has a (3 line) haiku at the end rather than the tanka. But there are many similarities.

Thanks for the info - didn't know that tanka was also like the halibun. So this is called "tanka prose"?
-
Yes - There are similarities and then the unique difference. Both have a unique title that cannot be repeated in the rest of the piece.
The prose in the Haibun is terse and has choppy sentences while the tanka prose is more poetic.
The haibun ends with a haiku and the tanka prose ends with a tanka.
In March, I posted a haibun called (game over). If you'd like to read it, it may show the differences. Thank you again for your great review and showing such interest in the JSF poetry.

Thanks for these tips. Hope to remember them.

Oh, Janet, I'm so pleased to see this posted here and be able to read it again. I do love your descriptions, and the sensory imagery is a delight to experience. Your prose is wonderful and, and the tanka a perfect ending. I'm glad you entered it in the Mother's Day contest and wish you the best of luck.
Smiles,
Karyn :-)

Absolutely wonderful post for Mother's Day, Jan. One can feel your heart in each and every line of your tribute. I can actually see you doing the things you say as you do them. You sure favor your Mom, Janet in this wonderful picture. I am sure you have many more. Happy Mother's Day to you, my friend. :) Bob

I am having a hard time coming up with the words to tell you what I think of this exquisite tribute to your mother, my friend. I am so reminded of the special bond we share with our mothers, and I miss mine so much at times, it's like I'm robbed of speech.
Best of luck with the judges. This is lovely, and I will add it to my bookcase to study the form. Haibun is my all-time favorite, and after reading this, I think I'll have to give tanka prose a go sometime. (Thank you for your wonderful notes, too!)

Thank you for this stellar review and special sixth star. I am so pleased that it resonated with you. I like haibun too but I've been leaning toward tanka prose - it seems to have a more poetic flow for me.
