This poem, Satao, is a sad last testament for what was an iconic and well-loved elephant. The sickening photographic evidence is a devastating reminder that man's ridiculous desires for trinkets causes horrific and needless death.

Satao was murdered to have an ivory trinket

Whales are murdered to be used in Chinese traditional medicine

30 Million seahorses every year are murdered because beliefs have that they have medical properties that boost virility and even cure impotence ....they are also considered cute pets or simply because they are unique trinkets.
They are put in the sun to die slowly

Cecil , a magnificent male lion , was killed for MERE SPORT by an American dentist named Walter Palmer in 2015( he wounded him with an arrow and after 10 hours tracked him down and killed him with another arrow)
Cecil was an attraction of the Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe..

And the list goes on ...

Sad indeed .... We should be looking after these wonders and not exploiting them.

Hello poet: Poems about people mistreating our wildlife meed to be posted everywhere so everybody can see them...and decent people can protest them. Be not deceived; God is, "NOT," mocked. For what ever one sows...that one reaps the same. Mistreating our animals is wrong. But like old faithful our sun...what goes around...comes around. God bless you, poet. Keep up the good work.

I love watching nature video on you tube ...Greed and profit caused Satao's death.

Cecil ,he was such a magnificent lion , murdered for mere sport ..I cursed that American dentist.

And all the ophaned orangutans ... their habitat has become a gigantic palm oil plantation .......and the list just gets longer of wild animals slaughtered for one reason or another.

We continue to exploit our planet but one day we will pay for these crimes.

I believe you live in Zanzibar..I remember reading a very colourful story you wrote about the sea life there ..am I right?

Thanks for the reply. My husband and I lived in Tanzania turning an ostrich farm into a model vegetable farm, then we got into anti poaching with drones. it is hard to eradicate the killing of elephants in a poor country because of corruption.
Zanzibar was an hour flight from arusha,so I did spend a lot of time there.
The saddest thing I ever saw was the orangutan attacking the big bulldozer as it knocked down the last tree. snif.
Hopefully people will realize the damage before it is too late. judester

I saw in one of the recent video that they use drones which of course has the advantage of being able to scan a more vast area than being on wheels ..technology can be a positive instrument.

I understand the poacher is the poor sucker that risks the most and doesn't get much but it's a way to support his family .. It's those that take the Ivory and sell it on the black market that get the big money .. but as you say there is a lot of corruption ..authorities looking the other way.... so this precious cargo can leave the country..

I wrote a poem on the seahorses .. Some 20 million are killed every year ..mostly males still pregnant ..

Man is wicked .

The birth of sea horses is truly amazing. Not because they come out perfectly formed and in bunches,,,, but because it's the male that does the work. hah.

I'm always looking at nature based videos on you tube .. When I saw the fate of Satao I cried.

Mankind does not deserve this planet ..we exploit it in every single way possible.

Sadly it is not a touching TALE.
