This is a pleasant reverie. I like the cotton motif running through the poem. But I also like the pacing - like a warm quiet Sunday in summer. Finally the rhyme scheme is not labored over or forced. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you James, I'm an old farm boy and we had such beautiful landscape in several places on our 500 acres.

Large, old cottonwoods
Standing near.
Casting their shadow
Across the bed of the stream,
As the water rushes forward
So fresh and clean.
You certainly do paint a beautiful picture with the words of this poem. I really enjoyed it.
