A sad yet sweet story in only 70 words. A nice entry for the contest. No edits or adjustments necessary by me. Good luck in the contest.

This is such a beautiful 70 word flash fiction. Beautifully illustrated, as well. I love the story. Sarah not only had a piece of her past, but she also had her grandmother's work of love to hold on to. Wonderful story!

This seventy-word story, Sarah's Gift, makes a terrific scene of sadness and blessing for two generations that had found their love connection. Nice.

Thanks for the insightful review Bill. I wanted that special connection to shine. One reviewer suggested that I use smile instead of grin, but I wanted people to see just how close they were. That Sarah just knew that there was a special gift left by her grandmother. So a knowing grin, instead of a smile. Cheers

Hello Author, This is so sweet. My grandmother actually made a ton of dresses for my sisters and myself while we were growing up. I never thought of doing that with the old clothes. Maybe I will someday. Thanks for the idea! :)

Thanks for the review. I read a story of how a family had taken all the familiar flannel shirts of the father and made it into a pillowcase for the mom, I thought that was such a wonderful gift. Cheers.

Oh my. This one just melted me. Beautiful, tender, touching, and so creative. A beloved grandmother would absolutely bestow this kind of gift to a child she loved so much. I wish you so much luck in the contest with this perfect piece. But, Mystery Writer, whether it wins or not, it is an absolute standout. xo

Thanks for the encouraging review. My mother in law has an embroidered cushion...if I had known grandchildren were so much fun, I would have had them sooner. Bless all the grandmothers. Cheers.

This is such a beautiful story. You have done very well in showing how just a piece of something owned/touched by a loved one can transmit love and calm us during our moments of grief when we lose them.
I have a pillowcase that was given to my older son by his grandma. We had a good relationship. She passed away a few years ago and the pillow case us so treasured because it was a part of her.
This was a good read. Best wishes in the contest.

My sister had just this sort of quilt once so your tale really resonated with me. I did wonder if she might have 'smiled' rather than 'grinned' but it's just a personal choice. Good luck in the contest.

Thanks for the thoughtful review. I did have smiled, then thought grinned would convey a
deeper connection to her grandmother, as if almost predictable that she would leave such a precious gift upon her passing. Have a great Sunday,
-
Fair enough - and on thinking about it, it makes sense. I'll watch for this in the contest.

This is such a touching story of a grandmother's love through the years as she collects the fabrics to make the quilt of memories for Sarah, memories of her favourite clothes and the grandmother who loved her and thoughtfully made her the quilt to cherish.
