So cool. I found myself singing your rhyme as the first thought that came to my head was Cat Stevens song by the name, Morning Has Broken. Fits almost perfectly!
Humorous and fun to read. Good job, good luck in the contest!
(PS) teach me not to read all the title info...you did say Cat Stevens!

It was a great song of our times! I used to sing my version often to my three daughters in the mornings to get them up:
"Morning has broken,
father has spoken,
get you pah-tooshka
Up out of bed.
The day is waiting
For your concentrating
Make it a great day
That lies just ahead."
It was met with the usual enthusiasm which young girls have for fathers...
Thanks for the nice review!

Very nice writing and you are so right. . .for me it's a stop at Starbucks, never a coke would do. I think in your second stanza, on the last line, rather than "Oh" I had to return a couple of times and felt that "A caffeine-free morning" made it flow better. Just me? Good luck.

In fact, I had written it with"A" first then changed. I am sure that Shakespeare eventually regretted at least one change, so I will trudge on. Thanks for the nice review.

You had me with the title! And from there is was full steamy cup ahead. I wanted to read it faster and faster - caffeine induced perhaps. Your rhyme scheme tracks nicely and I concur with your premise. Coca cola works perfectly - I usually sub Dr. Pepper, but that wouldn't have carried the weight, or cut the ice. Fun read. Thanks for posting. Judy

Full disclosure: There are mornings when opening a can of Coke is much easier than brewing a cup of coffee! You must be a Texan or have ties here cause I don't often hear of others touting Dr.P!!! Thanks for the nice review. It was a fun write!

Not a Texan. Northern girl. Full disclosure - I do decaf for medical purposes so caffeine is not an issue. But either hot coffee or cold coke or Dr. P is an essential. Judy

Wake up - it will do -
Caffeine is caffeine, even cold as ice!
Well, I guess you suffered from a true emergency if you reached for cold Coca-Cola instead of hot coffee. I wish you a speedy recovery.

With much practice, my friend, I have been a master of recovery. In fact, recovery became a way of life, I am the metaphor of recovery. However, with Mick Jagger going into heart surgery this week, this old boomer knows that I am but a pretender to the crown! Thanks for your great review!

Hi Reese,
Ha ha ha! Laughing with, not at, your plight. This piece is very well written with a great visual component which complements your verse perfectly. And I concur, I don't even like Starbuck's coffee and would never pay such ridiculous prices, just on principle. I have, on more than one occasion, been known to down a cold cola in the morning, though. LOL thanks so much for sharing and best of luck in the competition. This entry should fare quite well as most of us can certainly relate. Jan :-)

Making somebody laugh or chuckle brings me more joy than making a birdie putt (full disclosure: I don't make many...) But, as good writer, you know that sometimes the rhyme and time come tough and sometimes they just fall out. Thanks for the nice review.

This was a good piece, Reese. I got a good chuckle as I drank my own coffee. Not from Starbucks, either. This had a good flow to it and the form you used made it a smooth read.
