Oy! I feel your pain. And I don't even suffer from this anymore. This was tremendously well-done, Mystery Writer. I hope there's some consolation for you, at least, in THAT! And I love the photo you found. It definitely looks like Sam Sciatica would look. I've read a number of the entries so far, and this one seems like a standout for the win. But even if it doesn't win, it's still an exceptional entry. xo

Hello Author! I Abhore Sam!!!! He is my arch nemesis also! I have an offering for you though, or perhaps a story... Some years back I herniated a disc and Sam came to pay me a visit, on the left side... and they talked about Steroid shots in my back, and surgery... (we can go in and shave the bone down... yeah, I thought, that sounds plesant and really safe too! No thanks!) I was crawling around my house, and couldn't stand in the shower long enough to wet my hair never mind wash it. Baths only for me! Thank God there's a hand rail on the tub from the old folks who lived here before me!
After what I call a laughable attempt at PT and no job for way too long, I finally bit the bullet and got a shot... in my spine of all places! Nothing I was in any urgent urgency to do. It worked. My Dad immediately got me a Gym membership and I got on a treadmill and started walking. Every day... I went in and walked for an hour... then I did what I could with the rest of me.
The walking helped to move my disk back into place and start Sam on his way before the shot wore off. I did need a second shot, this was a nightmare for me. When they took the needle out I lost spinal fluid into my body and the side effects were brutal and lasted for three months. After that I got back to the gym! Walking is your cure. They probably won't tell you that!

Thank you for taking the time to read my story about Sam and thanks for the tip and the insight into your problems with Sam. I'm trying not to even think about surgery.

Yeah... don't go there. A guy in my town, a rich guy... decided to take the short cut, surgery... now he's in a wheelchair for life. I guess somebody slipped. I'd rather be in pain myself. Good luck! I also have one other thing in my house, I got a yoga swing. I made my boyfriend hang it in my bedroom for me, I can now hang upside-down like a bat... nothing like gravity doing the opposite of what it normally does... it pulls your spine apart... very nice... like a chiropractor at home. :)

I hope for your boyfriend's you have not become a vampire bat.
Thanks for the idea. But, I think I'm a little to old to hang up side down. Stay well!

Oh Sam is a weaselly, vindictive critter isn't he?! Your use of the old 'Gremlin' image from the eighties here is just great! :) ;) A very well-communicated offering for the contest -- good luck at the polls! :)
