This 5-7-5 on fire, The Power of the Written Word, has the right set up and lends the hotness to the written word and the eyes that accept the heat.

I love the imagery of this 5-7-5 poem on the subject of fire. Not only were the requirements of the syllable count met line by line, but the quality of a good writer and the effect of good writing on the reader -- the ability to feel it in the body -- also captured in few words. I very much enjoyed this. Excellent, and well-deserved prize winner.

You've summed up the power of well chosen words in just a few short lines. We never know how our works will resonate with the readers. We just try to be honest with our feelings and pen what we feel - and sometimes they just hit the mark. Well done.

This was a super write Rachelle - and congrats on your win. A 575 is easy to write, but not easy to write well. I chuckled when I read of your original 'fire' gaff with the syllable count! That sweet reviewer gave you a true gift with 'bonfire', but you did the rest and it sizzled. Definitely qualified as 'an original approach'!

Didn't she, though? That was "the" word that changed everything for this poem.

The Power of the Written Word", is short, succinct and very much to the point. Each line of this talented poet's work is woven with the golden threads of truth. You KEEP WRITING and I'll KEEP READING. To me, this is a six, but I only have fives left. I look forward to seeing your next post.

Never too late to recognize your contest win for your 575 FIRE verse.

Your selected illustration is matched perfectly to your description. I recall those fountain pens, but never had an expensive one!

smoldering writings ... bonfires are great images

instead of (blue) veins, arteries carry the red blood (your text color) to our heart, but they unfortunately would not satisfy your syllable count. LOL
