This poem tells us that we have to be careful with nature and slow down the polluting of the air and water and other harmful things we do. We want to keep
Earth safe and beautiful so we don't have to leave it and miss the things we love most about it. The repetition enhances the emotion of the piece.

Good luck in the contest. Keep writing

Joan

Thanks, Joan. I'm glad the intent of the poem comes through.

Another fine poem, Aiona--it's tragic that the Republicans are making fun of climate change, and selfishly clinging to their 'me first, me only' philosophy--ignorance wrapped in selfishness

Thank you for the compliment, Mike. I love our planet so much. I look at other planets and think, "I dunno. May be okay to visit, but I wouldn't wanna live there." So yeah, I hope we can all work together as stewards. But you know, even in my parents' families, siblings can't seem to get along. (I'm an only child, you see.)

I don't know Aiona... I think we might have to leave it for our grandchildren, or maybe our great-grandchildren... depending on your age of course! I have a friend who just turned 40 and she's got 2 grandkids already... 3 and 5. I have one son, 18, and I'm in my early 50's! So you know... there's a spread! I am a Great Aunt though... the 5th is on the way! LOL

LOL! Yes, I guess I could have put "posterity," but that's four syllables. Hmm. Maybe I can change it around a bit.

It's fine the way it is! lol

I ended up changing it to posterity. It works. It also starts with a "p" like "planet," so it kind of fits the pattern of the other stanzas. I like both ways, but this one seems to have more structure. Thanks for the suggestion!

I like your take on what we would miss 'If We Left" this earth for all those
places and trade offs, and what we would gain in return. A most intriguing
inquiry indeed, and challenge of choices most provocative. Like your
pic choice took which blends in with your theme.
Thanks for sharing, and indeed keep writing more!
Best wishes, Ronni

Well said. Whatever the attractions of other places, we need to be very careful of what we wish for. Thanks for an interesting piece and good luck in the contest.
