Dear Author,
One's gene pool predicts whether a person will like cilantro or not! A member of the mint family, it has a strong taste--especially, fresh! Your well-written poem was humorous and well written! I loved the analogy to "Black Licorice"! Maybes, Deborah

Now you did it! What? This:
"You never see Baked Trout with Licorice Sauce
Or Braised Lamb with Licorice Zest."
Look for these delights to now show up in your local supermarket's freezer case.
Loved this humorous poem!

Thanks for reading and so glad you liked it.

Cilantro is also known as Chinese parsley,
Great with spicy food and probably used as a filler in salads. Never heard of it being a hot spice unless mixed with chillies. Great commentary on the subject. Blessings to you.

You did a great job, Mystery Author, with your contest entry. Your lines flow well, the rhymes are good, and the message is clear. Some of those concoctions sound horrible. I agree. Let the diners add whatever without using that cilantro in everything. Thanks for sharing. Best wishes. Jan

Frankly, I like the fresh taste of a cilantro--an herb, by the way-but not on everything.
Evidently this is a new flavor sensation in your neck of the woods?
I'll admit, chef's often get carried away with something new. That's the way of all things creative. Even Picasso had his blue period.
I suggest you mention your aversion to cilantro to your waitperson. He or she can steer you clear.
Personally, cilantro tastes more lemony than licorice to me.
Peace, Lee

Oh, I don't think it tastes like licorice - I just dislike them both.
And most of my posts are exaggerations and all in fun. I will eat cilantro, am just not fond of it.
No, San Antonio has had cilantro for years - probably forever, but it used to be mostly in Mexican food and it seems (to me) that now it's in many things, some of which seem inappropriate.
But thanks for reading and for your suggestion.

This is adorable, and I understand your point for, while I'm not familiar with cilantro, I have the same feeling about paprika. I agree with you that we don't need savory desserts when sweet will do just fine. Your sense of humor made me smile, your rhymes work well, and I like your originality.

I wasn't familiar with cilantro, either - but boy, I am now!

Nope, Jenny, I did not know that. And you got me - I kind of made up the cilantro in ice cream bit (with your funny "I scream" aside!!,) however I wouldn't be surprised if somebody doesn't do that.
All I can contest to is that here in SA, it IS in just about everything - things I used to like. To me, It's almost on a par with sweetbreads - ugh - and calf's brains - both of which my mother liked. No - cilantro doesn't come close to those.

Hi Contest Author,
Ha ha ha! I share your perspective on cilantro. I have always said "it tastes like soap."
One offering for your consideration:
"Did you know Coriander, is Cilantro seed, ground?"
It could be just me, but this might read more fluiy without the comma after Coriander.
Thanks for sharing and good luck!

Dolly,
Have to admit I made up the ice cream part - however I wouldn't be surprised.
Thanks for your response. Tell your sister if she has to be allergic to something, what better than cilantro.
Think I'll start telling waiters that, then they'll have to tell me if cilantro is in whatever it is I'm ordering.
