Congratulations on the win! Very unexpected ending! And watching Vickie come out of her shell was satisfying. And will you be introducing the sky friend in the next visit?

Hi there, SME!! :) So glad you dropped by for the review today -- I do so appreciate that! ;) :) And, you're not gonna believe this, but you are the ONLY person who even asked about that... LOL! :) But, I will be honest, every time I write a short story (especially my fantasy writes), I always make sure I tuck in a little something that would allow me to expand it if I ever have time...perhaps when I finally retire full-time! :) ;) Thank you again for stopping in and please know that you are welcome to stop in anytime, contest or no.......it may not be sailing around the Caribbean, but the front porch is always open to 'sit a spell' and enjoy the scenery!! :) :) Take care out there and have a wonderful remainder of the weekend! :) Yvette :)

This is a lovely interpretation of the topic of two women sitting at a deserted bar. You have kept up the suspense well and we only learn Callie's secret at the end. Good luck in the contest.

This sounds like a lovely friendship. I'm trying to not be such a loner and actually make new friends and let people into my little world I live in. It's so hard! I totally relate to the hesitation at first. I loved this.

Oh, it really is hard, isn't it?! :) ;) I am so glad you enjoyed Vickie and Carrie -- thank you for taking the time to review their story! :) Have a wonderful evening and best of luck with small steps -- I'll be cheering for you! :)

A fascinating story with an unexpected twist in the tail! Miguel is an excellent matchmaker. You have captured the developing relationship beautifully through the dialogue and nonverbal behaviour. In their own different ways, brains and beauty can both be isolating.

I wasn't sure I wanted to read a long story about two women (I am a sexist reader sometimes), but your first few paragraphs SETTING THE SCENE and INTRODUCING VICTORIA hooked me. I really liked how you characterized her as a strong woman in the boardroom, but essentially a loner. Then you brilliantly described Callie as the gorgeous other woman. Only a WOMAN could write the SUPERB DIALOG that ensued between these two women who soon became friends. And I love how you describe Callie's secret at the end. A wonderful story I am so glad I took the time to read with a great theme: the universality of FRIENDSHIP. Superb! Rod

So-o-o-o-o, you're forgiven about the sexist thing...let's face it, we all are 'uniquely discerning' in our own way when it comes to reading fiction...it's who we are. :) ;) That being said, I am THRILLED that you enjoyed Vickie and Callie -- both are very close and dear to me in a number of ways! :) ;) Your comments have both made me smile and given a great start to this glorious week of Spring Break!! ;) :) Thanx for those lovely stars, Rod -- Be sure to enjoy your week ahead! :)

Very well written story with great creativity and imagination. The story was interesting from the beginning to the end with a great surprise twist about the mermaid. Great job expressing the personalities in the interaction between the two women.

I didn't see that coming. She's a mermaid when in the water. Wow. Talk about a surprise ending. So they were only friends? Nothing more? Odd that neither of them had friends but liked each other. It could have ended there, but you made her a mermaid! Cool. :)

Ahhhh....in answer to your questions, I wrote it purposefully for the reader to answer for themselves. :) ;) Thanx for your review, Phyllis -- always great to hear from you! :) Be sure to enjoy the remainder of the weekend! ;)

This was a really good story. The flow was great. It grabbed my attention right from the start. Great characters as well. They were well developed and the dialogue seemed realistic, too. Nice job.

I loved the ending. It was definitely a surprise. I actually thought it was going in a different direction, to be honest. It was a great story.
