Dear Author,
Your historical story was well-written and memorable. I am impressed with your ability to show respect as a key component in the mother and her sons' responses to FDR's momentous death. The last line was most effective!
My best,
Deborah

Hi Contest Author,

This is a very well-written story and a great contest entry. I can only imagine how devastated the country was when FDR transitioned to spirit. I know it was a real tragedy for the country to have lost such a brilliant, compassionate, and effective leader.

Nothing I can see here to suggest you improve upon. Best of luck in the contest.

It seems that whenever there is a traumatic event people seem to remember them like when Kennedy was short or 9-11. My mother was a second grader that day. She was walking to school and hears some older girls that FDR was going to be stuffed. Years later she said her mother explained it to her, FDR was getting an autopsy. Very nice story. Thank you for sharing.

I love it. I am old enough to remember the Philco radio, sitting on top of the Kelvinator, although, I was born in 1946, so do not remember FDR's death. This certainly captures the way it was back then. I also can imagine the Mother's reaction and the kids, not really getting the gravity of the situation. Very good.

This is an excellent prose short story and entry for the contest.
Difficult to tell if it is fiction or non-fiction.
There was great fear in those days. FDR had always been there
as a pillar of support and comfort.
You've captured the time period with excellent details.
The child perception adds a great deal to the effect.
Well done
Good luck in the contest

Thank you for sharing this vignette. I love stories like these and have always thought it was a shame that we are not all writers, for what stories have been lost simply because there was no one with the skill to record them. Is this a photograph of you and your sibling? Good luck with your contest entry!

Thank you for the read and the comments. Much appreciated. Unfortunately, photo is not one of my brother and myself, but the clothing is true to what we would wear.
