Hi Lisa,
LOL!
Great poem, visual presentation, and contest entry! Best of luck in the voting booth!
This rooster has the "What's this?" look one of my old Dober kids used to get on her face when something was weird. Like when I put a sweater on another dog of mine. LOL
Thanks for sharing and for the chuckle.

I am so pleased that you liked my poem... only one person voted for it in the contest, however. I enjoyed writing it though!
Dog sweater... I am sure they appreciate it in winter.

Second one I've read by you this morning and again, the author's notes are fantastic. I love how you anticipate inane reviewer's objections "Yes, chickens are animals". In checking your bio, I see that , of course you're from Australia - not sure what they put in the water down there, but you people have the best senses of humor on the planet.

Thanks for reviewing, I'd hoped you would read something of mine some time.
RE your comment about Aussie humor, i guess that just means you were switched at birth and are actually Australian yourself.
And hey, thanks so much for becoming a fan.

I like it. Plus the chicken head photo accents the trouble we face when "the chickens come home to occupy the crow's nest." If we would only ignore the clucking, scratching, nit-picking, fussing, feathers that fly, we might even get along. Good job.

Yes, all that barnyard behavior is most unbecoming! Thanks for reviewing, Gail.

Our youngest and his large family have so many farm animals. Keeps them busy - morning and evenings. Probably good for them to be able to do things like milking goats, feeding chickens, mucking out stalls.

I think it is character-forming to care for animals. Yes, there is hard work involved, but it teaches discipline and compassion.

A very well-written 5-7-5 poem about the sick chickens arrived and the Rooster is not very impressed with this sick bunch and the feathers seem to fly soon in conflict.

That old "pecking order" always causes troubles! Thanks for reading and reviewing Sandra.

This is so cleverly written. Sorry that you had to explain the various expressions. That was helpful and probably a good idea for the vote.
Isn't there another expression "Who's minding the henhouse?" That one seems a little appropriate as well.
Good luck in the contest.

Thanks for your review Debbie. Because I live in NZ I am unsure how well known some sayings are in other countries, so rather than seem too obscure I think it best to explain... although some people think it is an insult to their intelligence to have it laid out for them. Better to be understood than misunderstood I feel.
"Who's minding the henhouse?" is very appropriate!

Yep, there is a reason we say pecking order. Chickens do it...peck peck peck....the feathers fly...and order is restored...at least to a chicken's mind
We would get chickens , battery hens and they couldn't walk...but it was great seeing them get healthy again
God bless

That pecking order treatment sure can be damaging. Nice of you to give a happy home to battery hens, and nice of you to review my poem. Thank you.

Dear Anonymous Poet,
Thank you for sharing your entry in the Witty Animal contest. I think it is difficult to portray the wittiness of the animal in a five-seven-five, but you did bring in some excellent points.
Good luck to you in the contest,
~Mustang Patty~

Seems that most poets have aimed at being witty themselves rather than showing the animals as witty. Thank you for your review.

Good focus on a political issue about fighting roosters. Good use of imagery and the way animals behave in this short 5-7-5 poem. I enjoyed reading it. It has a witty message.

Those cocks seem to enjoy the trouble they cause! Thanks for your review. When I spotted that photo it seemed very suitable.

Thanks for your review Dolly. One thing about facing our demons, sometimes they sneak up on us from behind cos we didn't keep a good enough lookout.

This speaks about the sudden and miraculous return of the sick chickens, though they are now seen at a nearby crow's nest; well said, well done. Keep Writing Inspire Changing! -- DR ALCREATOR
