Hi there,
You did a good job with this piece. I can see how it won the competition. I do find with these though that the morals feel a little tagged on sometimes but this fits as best as can.
All the best

I see this is leading the votes at the moment and it will be a worthy winner at the end. It is a finely crafted poem; I like the references to cultural variation as in the figs and cumin, showing that we each bring individuality to a neighbourhood. And being different doesn't make it wrong. I wish it was Christmas every day of the year, so the feel-good factor of caring and sharing would last all year long.

So the only missing in the cookies that Theresa and Davis needed was love. To see the smiling faces and feel the tenderness that comes from children as they eat cookies is beautiful. Good neighbors and sweet children makes for a baby receipt. :) Good entry for the Write a Modern Fable contest.

What a delightful story! I just loved this, with its wit and humor and most of all--love. The way to everyone's heart is their stomach and this recipe jar idea was perfect. It is often difficult to fit in and meet new people in this day and age. Just a lovely story. Best of luck in the competition!

Aaaawww, this entry touched my heart - I just love cookies!!
Haha - how shallow of me ;)
No really though, this is a lovely (and well written) tale and I really do like the morale to the story. Our family is rowdy and hectic and a bit rough and tumble at times, but we work and we love each other.
Good job with this prompt.
Good Luck in the voting booth.
Best wishes, Debra :)

Dear Anonymous Author,
This is a great story. I can remember making those jars for Christmas gifts for the neighbors one year. My children got the idea from one of their friends, and we worked all day one Saturday to measure the ingredients into the jars and attach a ribbon with the recipe card.
My neighbors weren't as generous as the ones in your story. I don't remember getting cookies from everyone!
I love the moral, and I wish you lots of luck in the contest,

Omigoodness! What an absolutely terrific fable and a perfectly worded moral. This was warm and sweet like a plate of Teresa's cookies. And that accompanying couldn't have been a more custom fit! (Or is that because that was the inspiration for the fable?) Good luck with the contest. Whether or not you win, this story is fantastic.

Dear Author,
This is such a great story! And a superb contest entry. Best of luck in the voting booth.
I love the moral to the story! A much needed message in these turbulent times of exclusion and overt hatred towards so many.
Please accept my virtual 6 for this, as I am out.
Thanks for sharing,
Jan

Great idea and good for the recipients for customizing the cookies to their own tastes. I always add something new to chocolate chip cookies myself, whether nuts or coconut or raisins... just to make them a bit different. :)
