Like your chosen illustration - it gives a great 'compliment' (sic) to your restricted syllabled verse.

your c-letter alliteration is spot on, especially your chirping cardinal (-:

last line is an unusual but effective closer for your 3-5-3 entry!

Hi Mark. Imagination ran wild during the polar vortex. Saw this cardinal and could swear I could see the chirps in the air. Thanks for sharing and your insightful comments. Rod

This 3-5-3, Frigid, has the proper formatting and makes me laugh to think I'd see a puff of frozen vapor coming out of a bird. That would be followed by his rubbing his wing tips together.

During that polar vortex, I could swear I could see the cardinals' breath when they chirped. I did not see him rubbing his wing tips though. Rod

Chirp, chirp, chirp...writing the cardinals chirp is visible because is it so cold is a unique topic and creative way to address the contest. A nicely formatted and well written 3-5-3. I wish you great luck in the contest.

I think that I just read the winner. That is adorable. That little "cardinal's chirp" does it for you in my book.
Good luck. This is really charming.

I was being sincere. I don't know how any of the entries could have beaten a frozen cardinal chirp. I love it and wish that I had thought of it.

Now that is cold!
Of course being that the regal red cardinal is the state bird of the great State of Ohio, where I live, and seeing that it gets colder than a well digger's butt in brass underwear here, sights such as this are a pretty common occurrence in these parts.
Good 3-5-3 composition coupled with a nice presentation made this contest entry a joy to read.
Best wishes, Anonymous Poet.

This is a wonderfully original and graphic depiction of the cardinal's chirp. They look delightful birds... we don't have them in NZ, most of our birds here are rather drab coloured.

Well, you do have many wonderful birds in NZ we do not have here in Illinois. Many thanks for your kind praise of FRIGID, Lisa.

Just thought it was a cute idea. Imagine if all the birds chirps were visible in the frigid temperatures. It would give us a lot to look at. What color and size would each different species be?

Now, that is cold when you can visibly see a chirp. Haha. Too cute. A wonderfully fin and lighthearted entry for the 3-5-3 contest. I wish you the best of luck!
