Hi,

This is very well written and all too common of a sad story these days -- this sort of thing. How families can park their elders in nursing homes is beyond me. Shameful, in my opinion.

This is nicely written - nothing to suggest improving upon.

Thank you for sharing and drawing attention to this societal problem.

Getting old really sucks. This poor woman has no one to take care of her or at least no one willing to take care of her. It's sad. Parents should have someone willing to help them in their old age.

Wow this was a very strong free verse. The story is very sad, as we age then the thought that the woman has dementia or Alzheimer's is another component to add to this harsh reality. Good luck in the contest. Cheers, Fonda

such a sad story that is told over and over again. not much can be done if their own family won't step up. society puts a tremendous burden on nurses, and in 99% of cases they excel..

First of all, Let me say how surprised I was to see this poem entered into the failure contest. I love the content of your story. Anyone that has ever cared for a parent while watching them fade into old age, can relate to the sadness of your tale. Alzheimer's can be a sad and tragic end to a once vibrant life. Your choice of words decscribe this very well. Well done...it brought up emotion and a tear or two. A very pleasurable read. And I just realized...I guess the â??failureâ?? would be of a society that discards old people...

Jennie, you "got" my poem and why I put it in the contest for failure. Society does discard our old people and it is so sad especially when a person's own family discards them, too. Thank you for commenting on my poem. I am glad you read it and understood my intent.
