I enjoyed your photograph of the whimsical clock in your playroom to establish the mood for your poem. The complex structure of your poem parallels the Time Machine theme as well. Here's to continuing to "play in the past"! -Joan

Very nicely executed. It seems you've been back in time and had a few lessons from the master himself!
Time travel is a perennial fantasy. Wise of you to stick with the past. Who knows what the future might hold?

Thank you Tony. Yes, at least the past gives one some idea what to expect. I appreciate the stars and the review.

I was told about your post by Pantygynt and I was amazed because that very day I had written a poem about a Time Machine being build in my neighbours basement! He he he. I enjoyed your travels here through time and wouldn't it be wonderful to go back in time but even more fascinating to travel forward! A well executed Petrarchan rhyme here, I would definitely have loved to meet Shakespeare! Much enjoyed, love Dolly x

What a wonderful coincidental experience. Lol. Yes, going to the future would be equally exciting.

A very well-written poem about traveling to the past where we can buy things cheaper and bring them back to our lives today is a very smart idea. We should have thought of that while we were young and bought it then.

I am truly impressed with your poem. First, it is fun to travel with you and see how you experimented and eventually worked out a time-frame where you could linger in an epoch if you chose. Second, I can't believe you wrote your tale in Petrarchan sonnets. One is impossible for me to write. You wrote THREE! Truly a six-star achievement. Rod

Tom, this is a very interesting concept to think about. A time machine that would let us travel back in time. I am not really sure I would want to travel back, but I am sure some would find it a delight. Patricia

An interesting poem. While I don't care to go into space, I would love to go back in time. When you get your machine ready, take me with you. I'm particularly interested in prehistoric times. I can see by your information that meter and rhyme are all correct. Well done.

This sound great to me. I never thought about going back in time to where things were a normal price. My parents paid $8000 for the home I grew up in. The same house would be a $65000 today, much more in other places in the US. When you think about the rate of inflation it's really unreal what we pay today. If people could have just say no way am I paying that, inflation would have been more in control, but no one would go without so they paid outrageous prices. Foolish. Anyway, really great job on this. Rox

Tom,

That would be rather cool, I have to admit. *smile* Can I go with you sometime? There are some things I left back there in the past -- around 1981 or 2 that I would really like to retrieve. hahaha!

Thanks!

Thank you for sharing this poem. The variation on form is interesting; the changeup in the rhyme scheme on the sestets and the syllabic feet seems a little arbitrary. I've been writing in the ABBA scheme lately and I find myself losing the rhyme from the beginning of the quatrain to the end. This poem definitely makes you ponder the "what ifs".

Thank you KyColonel. That happens especially when the lines get longer than tetrameter.
