Oh yes, the tree. How I remember swinging on a rope in reinactment of Tarzan. And the failed tree house build...sigh ..this is a sweet little poem that opens floodgates of memories for readers. The picture matches perfectly.

And that, right there, is why we write poetry, yeah? To hit a touchpoint in the reader that really sets off a cascade of emotions and thoughts and memories -- what a beautiful compliment you have given me, Seaglass -- I am grateful!! ;) ;) Take care! :)

Yvette,

Apparently missed this one first time around!

Like your first and third line rhyme. Your last line is a great walk down (my) memory lane.

Yes, the fun and imaginative adventures of children in years gone by are different than 21st century kids with their finger exercises on their various electronic devices.

Oh, yeah, I was a tree-climber (full on tomboy, not a girly bone in my body back then!) when I was young -- used to love to be as high as I could get in our sycamores in the backyard! :) ;) You don't get any closer to a 'tree hugger' when you're way up in the air like that and trees start swaying in the breeze -- used to give my mom heart attacks, I think! :) ;) Thanx for stopping in and take care! :) Yvette

    Yvette,

I didn?t climb that high. But, as a young teen or younger, I climbed unto our yard?s weeping willow on a warm day with a book! It was surely not poetry -likely Robert Heinlein?s science fiction books. LOL

Oh, Yvette, this should have won. I voted for mine of course, but, when I saw yours, I knew mine did not stand a chance. This time, I did not know it was yours. I should have know. This one really appealed to me.
Good job.

Hey, MQ!! :) Thanx for your wonderful words -- this one, I guess, was not my 'usual' but I was a tree-climber (full on tomboy, not a girly bone in my body back then!) when I was young -- used to love to be as high as I could get in our sycamores in the backyard! :) ;) You don't get any closer to a 'tree hugger' when you're way up in the air like that and trees start swaying in the breeze -- used to give my mom heart attacks, I think! :) ;) Take care! :)

I was a tree climber myself. My only concussion came from falling out of the top of a tree.

This tree-hugger 5-7-5, Living Heirloom, has the right set up and returns to the everything tree which elevated children's play to the mythical events we remember.

In my opinion, a lovely write, reminiscent of childhood fantasies and play, in gentle rhyme - in perfect compliance with the prompt. Best of luck in the contest...

We had a massive old oak tree in our backyard and built a tree house in it, Anonymous Poet.
We used to pretend were were shipwrecked on a deserted island like Robinson Crusoe.
We spent many a summer's day and night in that old tree's branches.
Of course, that was back in the day when kids actually went outside to play and were forced to use their imaginations.
Best of luck to you in the 5-7-5 contest.

Hello :)
I used to love playing in the trees and using my imagination too... I wish kids played like that nowadays.
I like your entry to the contest very much, I like how you rhymed it and made each syllable count.
Good luck in the voting booth!
Best wishes, Debra :)

Well done on this meaningful and whimsical verse about playing in trees as children.. I did my fair share of that. I enjoyed reading this and think it will be a great entry for the contest.

What a very nice verse for this contest. Trees are wonderful beings who have watched over the earth for eons. They can bring joy and happiness to generations of families. I see this is a contest and I wish you the very best of luck with this write!
