This is striking, frightening and a difficult write for the author it is brilliantly done. I saw a movie about this institution and it was scary beyond all things... thanks yours,

In my opinion, a startling write, dramatically rendered in its emotionally expressive, casually rhyming and free verse style - a story that tugs at the heart in its empathy for the soul held captive both by personal demons and unrelenting walls - complies perfectly with the prompt. Best of luck in the contest...

You are very welcome indeed, and I certainly place a great deal of credence in "what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger," although I would very much prefer a gentler and kinder path more often...Eve

You did a very good job capturing the torment of someone placed in such a facility. Cold steel door, antiseptic smells, loud shrieking - wow. This reader almost felt like she was there.

Your notes were very interesting and enhanced this poem. Nicely written! Lou

Hello author
My what an eye opener was your story/poem it got my attention of the feelings that Kenneth Donaldson, a patient held there, sued the hospital and staff for confining him for fifteen years against his will. The court ruled that he had been illegally held.

Dear Anonymous Poet,

Thank you for sharing your Story/Prose poem for entry in the contest. The picture certainly depicts a lovely mansion - much different than the mental hospital here in Salem, OR - where 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' was filmed.

Your poem tells the tale of a hospital that scares the patients, but since SOME of them are there for crimes, maybe it is understandable.

Good luck to you in the contest,

~Mustang Patty~

The experience between the Salem, Or mental hospital and Chattahoochee hospital is similar to what we saw in the movie... ugly...

The picture show a beautiful place. If it is a mental hospital you can't tell by the look of it. I live in Florida and would love to see this. Is there a way to tour it? This is a wonderful entry into the contest. It flows well. It is a wonderful read. Very well done. Good luck in the contest.

Hey I have no idea about the tour because it is a personal story and I didn't want my Mom to be there one more day... we'd run out the door when she is released...

this is an intriguing piece of poetry dear anonymous! I was placed in a psychiatric ward after trying to commit suicide. I was there for 1,5 years. then I was diagnosed with schizophrenia. it was hell but I recovered. now I am like everyone else, although with some minor gliches.
thank you dear friend for sharing!
blessings and a super squeeze!

Super squeeze back at 'cha... It is an ugly existence... I'm so sorry you want to commit suicide... 1.5 years is sooooo long in a place like that but I'm so pleased you made it out better. My Mom was a paranoid schizophrenic and she fought taking her medicine every time we'd take her home and ended up back 2 more times...

This is really heartbreaking and really packs a punch. You have described this horrific place perfectlyy, very scary.
Just one mistake. Remove the word "the" from the 3rd stanza.
Good luck in the competition. Cheers. Jen.

Excellent.
Your story exposes the problems that must be confronted in getting help for the mentally ill.
Our prisons are now our mental hospitals. Most inmates released into society are worse mentally then when they were first incarcerated. Many have additional PTSD, as a result of archaic segregation punishments.
When Chattahoochee became a mental hospital, theorzine was the drug of choice to make the inmates somnolent. Now, prisons are tolerating some drugs being smuggled in, as long as they keep the inmates somnolent/marijuana.
Rehabilitation is dead. Gangs are forming, inmates must fight to survive; they come out angry and jaded.
Congress does not care. "Open they borders," which means a mixed bag. Sad.

Hey ElPoetry... All of the places, state institutions. are containment camps and have no regard for humanity... they just warehouse or more accurately jail the patients...
