Thank you for sharing this. I found the author's notes quite informative, and you are quite right that the photograph makes the place look like a beautiful plantation. Your profile picture looks a bit like the late Penny Marshall; and I am intrigued by the job description "designs movie posters in Los Angeles."

That was an overwhelmingly sad poem. You have really captured an emotion. I felt the hope at the end. The history you provided in the author's notes was fascinating. Thank you for all of the information. Good luck in the contest.

Notes are interesting and help explain this well crafted poem. A vast array of emotions displayed throughout. In the end, the narrator comes to the realization that maybe things will be alright.

Hey Meia... thanks so much for your celestial plus review... writing is such a wonderful release to be able to share life experiences and share the experiences... good, bad or indifferent Mom's Dreams: Someone is placing bunches of wheat around the edges of her room. Another dream:

I found your author notes as intriguing as your poem. I so agree. Looks can be deceptive. Perfect photograph for the theme of this work. I found your use of numbering "Assault"(s) an excellent way of getting your point across. Great job!

These old mental institutions exist all over the world and some are worse than others, but way back then they were all bad and treated people with mental illness as second class citizens. I hope today that there is more humanity as any one of us could suffer mental illness. Your poem is stark and real, poignant and shocking, love Dolly x

Hi Dolly... this has always been a travesty perpetrated on those who have 0, zip, nada voice... The people behind those walls are doomed from their first psychotic break until they die...

Dear Author, Your Story In a Poem is very powerful. Your words paint a truly vivid and horrifying picture of what it must be like for a person whoo has to enter such place. I visited wuch a place, after it had been closed, with my son as we were on a trip and he wanted to see haunted places. The things that went on there... I don't want to tell you...

This is chilling and I really don't know how or what to think about it and if it was a male talking to the female or a female talking to the female or female talking to the male patient - I was a little lost at the very end. I guess in mental illness it is hard to decipher male from female and it is just sometimes emotional which this was full of. It tore me in a bunch of different directions. I am sad to read this as it sounds like hell on earth.

It doesn't matte on this male or female... the atrocities perpetrated on a patient at one of the hell hole is an equal opportunity destroyer...

I very much fear and believe that the majority of people, myself included, are one major blow to our psyche away from being declared unbalanced. The pressure of dealing with today's stress and strain is pushing more and more of us towards the edge and then what will we do. What anchor will we cling to in order to prevent our drowning. This is a good dramatic work.

This is moving. What I wonder is if you were there? Not that I question the "sanity" of your poetry, but what is it you are writing? Is it a memoir, or is it...journalism, an expose of the the place and what it was, is now? The poem is effective. It seems to have the "ring" of personal experience, but then, who knows? If the poem is an exposes of the place then I think it might be more effective to say so and use some of your historical ammunition in it. As it is it is "between worlds."

Thanks
Wabigoon/Jeff

Hey Wabigoon... I was there it is a story from my life not an expose by a third party about the state of mental health care... I did live it...
