I disagree with abortion too, but I think some of the women who resort to it are desperate.
I'd have never done it myself though. Or so I think and hope.
Interesting poem on a relevant topic.
Thanks.

Thank you for your thoughts and review Maria. That may be the case for some, but 50 million?

Hi there,

You have presented a logical solution to the issue. I, too, believe that if we made it possible for these women to bring the children to birth - and rewarding them for it, as well as making it possible for a childless couple to adopt - it would be much more beneficial.

Thank you for sharing,

~Mustang Patty~

This "poem" is simply a statement made by a deeply upset writer. To be honest I don't see any attempt at literary quality at all. Even "free verse" usually has some style to it. No disrespect to your cause but this is not poetry.

Having said that, and obviously I disagree with your point of view, I won't mark it down. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and to state it. I just don't believe this is the forum for it UNLESS some attempt at poetic artistry is made (rhyme, meter, imagery, alliteration.... something to separate it from a Walmart Greeter's greeting or me reading out my bus timetable in monotone).

I do respect your honest passion.

This is a sensitive subject which has been simplified in your rant like poem. Unfortunately men will never understand how a woman feels or know what it is like to me pregnant, let alone be impregnated by a man who is uncaring and abandons the woman. This is a complex issue that can never be this simplified. When abortion was not legalised there were so many deaths through back street abortionists. There are so many reasons for abortion and each one has to be considered on its own merit. There is such a thing as rights for the woman as well as the child. It is just not this simple, love Dolly x

Thank you Dolly I appreciate your review and well considered comments. What did you thing of my proposal to provide a monetary incentive to give birth and allow for adoption?
reply by Dolly'sPoems on 01-Feb-2019
It is very difficult for women to give up their babies for adoption, there is much emotion involved and I don?t think this is the solution, sorry, love Dolly x

Okay here goes. I am a woman and I am going to discuss your high paid advertisement to stipend adoption and abolish abortion. First, who is footing this bill? Conservatives? If so, I find it hard to swallow that people who can barely pay a livable wage to their employees, would back such a high priced payout. Second, it seems they have difficulty keeping the government opened long enough to help the poor. Now, this is observational and not party related this is for the discussion of what you are proposing. Because of course, Conservatives make up a large audience who will agree with this idea. Also, they are God-fearing people and I find them to be a majority of the dedicated religious. I don't think I would want to entrust my possible adoption to a government entity. Third, I think that it is easy to spout these ideas when you have worked a very prestigious job at Lockheed where the earnings are above average. And to offer to just pay off a person to do something that is a decision about family planning well that right there sounds a little Hitler like - and dictator-like offering in my opinion. Now don't get me wrong I am not trying to be disrespectful, but as someone who has worked tirelessly in the community with young women who have had to face dire hardships when it comes to pregnancy - I think men should not have any say so in the matter what so ever. I think that a family should plan accordingly for there decisions regarding life. If anyone should be making laws about abortion- it shouldn't be men, It should be made by women. Only women know what is going on in their household - only women know how things happen in the womb. Only women know if they can handle becoming a parent, losing a child, or not dealing with any of the situations because of their mentally instability, or financially instability, or intellectually instability. My opinion - You, sir, are so wrong to blanket statement this policy. I understand you are trying to protect children. Why don't you start with the ones living in poverty at this very moment? Make a donation. Help a child get a meal. Make yourself feel better by donating clothes to their family. Buy some groceries. If you really cared about the life of children, you would stop fighting and start loving. Humans need to stop this nonsense. This is something to further the divide of people in politics and not to help the country come together. It is inflammatory and for the sake of this review, it is appalling to me. I understand you think you are doing something in the name of your Lord. Well, I am doing something in the name of what is right. That is voicing that people are destroying one another with words, fear, and poverty. I've seen it first hand. Please stop adding to all of that and add to some of the better parts of what I believe religion tries to teach us - compassion, love, understanding, peace, kindness. Cheap doesn't make something right or wrong. Money doesn't make things good or bad. My two cents. Cheers, Fonda

Thank yoju Ms, Snyder. I truly appreciate you reasoned comments. I fully concur that we need to provide a social safety net for the poor. This issue is about morality. I did offer a plan to provide a financial incentive to bring children into the world, that gives financial aid, and allows mothers who can't handle raising a child to give it up for adoption. I also have an incentive to ensure that the child is healthy, If she keeps the child, she would have a small nest egg to get started. Many of these women are poor or teenagers, so I believe this would go a long wazy to provide the love and caring that you discuss here.

This free verse, 50 Million and Counting, visits the issue that divides the nation more than capital punishment. This new possible ability to perform an abortion through forty weeks would make it legal to kill the child on the same day it would be born. Horror.

Amen to EVERYTHING you said. Human life is sacred.
I love your comparison to the Aztec culture.
I love how you repeat 'ABOMINATION!'
I believe life does start at conception. Life, heartbeat ... murder if aborted.
You have some good ideas in your author notes.
I just don't understand the direction this world is going right now.
Thank you so much for sharing this poem and speaking out!

Good for you! You're a man so you obviously know it all. God forbid you should ever get pregnant against your will. See, how you'd feel then. You are of course entitled to your opinion. Am I entitled to mine? Ulla

I have personally considered, along with my wife, aborting one of my own child in 1977. I have watched as my own two daughters have aborted my grandchildren. My son and his girlfriend aborted 3 children. In observing the reasons, I had to conclude, through my own loss, that this is wrong and evil. I imagine you didn't even bother to read my suggested solution.
