This 7-9-7, Julia (from the Fiction Department), has the syllables in the right places and made 1984 a good year for Winston.

Is the Fiction Department supposed to be the book that your character is from? It would've been better to say so in the notes rather throwing it into the title. I do like the poem itself though, it has a good message.

That's how she is referred to int the book, Samantha, and her last name is never given. :) ;) Thanx for the review -- take care! :) ;)

Very good indifferent type of poem. Many people think that nothing can go wrong in live. Sometimes they are right but many times they are wrong. Good word flow and picture. Beauty only lasts so long.

Everything, Dear Mystery Writer!
Everything that could and would and will go wrong...well...could and would and will go wrong! :) I taught 1984 for years when I was a 12th grade English instructor. My students were fascinated by the premiss of the novel, even more so when we made real world connections between the novel and today's reality!
Thank you for sharing!

Of course it could...and did...and they had it all on tape! :) ;) Hey, were you that crazy Senior English teacher that dressed up in nutty costumes and danced around the room in Honors English to make sure the nerds learned all their writing and poetry and literature because they couldn't help but learn it?!!! Mrs. Stroud is a hero that was mine and she was the one to really break through the science/math nerd in me and made me appreciate all those things!! :) So, good for you, Diane!! :) ;) Thanx for the review, ma'am -- and CONGRATULATIONS on your win for obscure words!...:) But, of course, an awesome English teacher whose also an awesome poet would have that one, hands down!! :) ;) You rock, Beautiful Lady! :) ;)

    Yes, Ma'am...or Sir!
I could tell you stories upon stories of my costumes and "get-ups" used to inspire and motivate my students. My absolute favorite was when my students read "The Kite Runner" = my favorite novel - and I dressed as a Muslim woman - complete with Burqa and hijab and simply walked into my classroom without saying a word. Of course, no one knew it was me, as my face was totally hidden...Upon the reveal, both male and female students - if they so desired - also donned the clothing. Absolutely amazing discussions re: inability to breathe, inability to express one's individual identity, inability to be "seen." GAWD! I so miss those teaching moments!
    Take Care!

The blonde here identifies as a ma'am... LOL! LOL! :) :) :) Thank you from the heart of all your former students...and I mean that with all my heart! :) ;) ......full burqa, eh? ... and they say us math nerds are weird...LOL! :)

I just rec'd the most heartwarming note/message from one of my students who will be graduating this December from nursing school thanking me for guiding and inspiring her as a writer and person. Priceless... Did I mention how much I miss teaching? :)

Yes! There were a number of quotes I tried to get in here, but I ended up 'settling' because they really only worked with 'more syllables' - LOL! :) ;) thanx for the review, Dolly! :)

For sure she met Mr. Winston. I like how you made this poem. It is a simple write with a few words. I see no mistakes. It is well written. Thanks for sharing! Good luck in the contest!

HAHA, a fantastic character commitment to the contest in this one. Anyone can see absolutely nothing will be going wrong with Julia in charge.

Most fun and best of luck to you in the booth. :)
