Thank you for sharing such a wonderful story. And being a teacher for forty years, you got to influence many young lives. I am so glad that your father finally came around and thank God that you survived that accident.

This is a well written piece on John F. Kennedy's quote that inspired you to follow your dream. We all need that special person whose message resonates with us. Best of luck in the contest with this fine entry. Marilyn

JFK did play an instrumental role in my career decision. No regrets except WHERE I taught the first two years. Many thanks for sharing, Marilyn, and your kind praise. Rod

I was in 6th grade when JFK died. I came of age in the post-Camelot era, but your essay made me think back on the 60's and how one life changed the trajectory of America. Thank you for your well-written tribute to John F. Kennedy. America is hungry for a leader of his magnitude again.

Dear Mystery Author,
It takes a lot to go against the wishes of a dominant parent -- I know. I wasn't beave enough to do so. *smile* I am proud that you were and enjoyed a rich life because of it. Good for you! Good luck!

Hi Robyn. Many thanks for sharing my story. My sister was unable to go against my father and was dependent on him until he died. She only achieved one dream of hers?owning her own home?and that came after his death.

Isn't it amazing how someone can impact our lives and change our world as we know it? I really enjoyed reading this and I thought it was great how you were inspired to follow your dream of being a teacher and how your dad ended up being proud of the fact instead of having a bad attitude about it (in the long run). It just goes to show that you should always be who you feel you are called to be and not live someone else's dream as you need to have your whole heart into whatever it is you are called to do. I'm glad you survived going over a cliff! That in itself is life changing realizing how precious life is! Thanks for sharing your story.

Thank you for sharing my story, Kathleen. I did spend many years urging my students to follow their dreams. I was surprised how many had fathers like mine. My father, though proud of me, kept urging me to change course and join him. He stopped only when I had kids of my own.

While I'm sure well meaning, your father had his way of you being a success in his eyes, not realizing that God put a different desire inside of you. I also find it's funny when you run an idea passed someone, they sometimes say, "I could never do that!" But no one is asking 'you' to do that, I'm just letting you know what I aim to do!

Your story is interesting. You've done a good job in showing how you were motivated and the pay off it had for you and the influence it had on your daughter. Good luck in the contest! TA ":~)

I too teach and disappointed my father who wanted me to be a French ambassador...sheesh. I lived in New Zealand my French wasn't all that. Lol
Teaching has allowed my creativity and love be exponentially greater than anything else I could have done...except being a mother of course.
Thanks for this
God bless
