Now THIS is a poem that should be posted where every parent can see it. I am shocked at how some mothers talk to their children (and I don't mind telling them so either, when it's out of hand. At least the kid gets SOME affirmation that they're right to feel hurt.)
Sorry, it's a BIG pet peeve of mine, and not just with kids, either, though ESPECIALLY them, and especially when they're not out of those formative years.
Cripes, even puppy training uses positive reinforcement.

Oh, you are too right on that call, Dawn -- so many parents these days aren't worried about what's best for the student...rather, they are worried about what is best that the student make them (the parents) 'appear' better than others...very sad! :) So glad you got the message here -- certainly an important one! :) ;) Yvette

Thanx for the review, Rod -- looked at the suggestion and see what you mean that 'worth' didn't fit -- 'evoke' however did not 'do' what I wanted but I did replace 'worth'....thanx for the review, sir -- very much appreciate the second set of eyes! ;) ;) Have a great evening! ;) ;)

I like that it emphasizes the power of the spoken word to build someone up.
I think a better word than "gentle" would be more powerful.
Overall, it is a well-done poem of this type.
