Well some dog and cat food does smell pretty tasty, but I'm not sure I'd want to try it, any more than I'd like fried grubs!! Another fun one, Bill. Well done. :)) Sandra xx

Thank you, Sandra, for giving this a look. Bill

Sad but sweet. I'd share with my pets too. I have heard that the homeless do get their protein from cans of soft food meant for dogs and cats. The picture makes it look appetizing.

I made his dog a Yorkie because a lab would eat the food, plate, and eventually Steve.

Oh my word, Bill. This is dark. The man is so poor so he's eating dog food. He must be desperate indeed. The dog should be scared as he could very well end up as a meal as well. Good luck. Ulla:))

Either the dog is well trained or I'm late to learn that dogs have feelings. This one knows that his caretaker is having financial problems, which is a mystery to me because dogs normally think about no one when themselves when they eat. They wolve the food down quickly.

That?s why I used a Yorky and not a Labrador.

You're welcome, Bill.

Chipper is a well trained pet and a good damn friend as well. A greedy dog would have eaten all the dinner, licked to bowl and humped Steve's leg into the bargain. No doubt about it, some pets are keepers, others are abandoned in the woods.

If Steve is eating dog food now, Chipper may be next.

Run Chipper, run boy! Do not look back.

Lol. Well that's just so amazing that he would let the dog eat first. I hear that the dry stuff may be better. But others say cat food is way better. Thanks for the chuckles.

This is a heartbreaking story, Bill, but not fiction (I know it is for you cuz you made it up) but many of the Seniors to whom I've delivered Meals on Wheels have been in this situation. :( :( Thanx for sharing - Please forgive my 'tardiness' in response -- the first week or so back always sucks up any spare time I may have! :) :P Take care - Yvette :)

I was going for the stark aspect of having no food. Most reviewers saw it as humor.

This story is truer than many may think. Back in the 1970s, the elderly was having trouble buying food when the prices went up so high. A lot of them ate canned cat food. The man in your story shared with his little companion. I love it! Good luck.

This is a very cute and well written Dribble Flash Fiction story you have penned for the contest. You used very good words and appropriate art work. It made me think of our outdoor cats too. Two on them get canned cat food. lol Best wishes in the contest. Blessings, Teri

If the story is implying that Steve is going to eat the dog food, then I say GROSS. Maybe I am off track here. Regardless, I know you find "gross" to be an inspiration, so write on!

My original intent was to depict a man down to eatong dog food, but still able to include his puppy dog.
