This is a very well written story about the last moments alive. It seems like a great way to get transported to the afterlife. As the contest states, the end of the world drives this amazing story. Great job and good luck!

I loved reading this..what started as a very dramatic and thought provoking image, with lots of tension, ended in a very warm and comforting climax. I thought the character description and imagery were very good and I could see in my imagination everything taking place very clearly...I really enjoyed it.

Interesting.
I found myself wondering if I was looking at a dream in a dream, wondering which world was the real one, the one burning away without hope or the one burning away with an escape. An escape through a gate made of bubbles would seem to be the obvious "dreamscape" but good apocalypses are unpredictable, after all.

Interesting.
I found myself wondering if I was looking at a dream in a dream, wondering which world was the real one, the one burning away without hope or the one burning away with an escape. An escape through a gate made of bubbles would seem to be the obvious "dreamscape" but good apocalypses are unpredictable, after all.

A well conceived story supplemented by good storytelling. I enjoyed the approach you took with the piece and i could pick up on the projected the notes of desperation and it felt genuine and unsettlingly plausible as a narrative. I could see myself enjoyong an expanded version of the story. Great work.

Yep, well done. No "nits' I see except maybe the whole thing. This sounds like "The Awakening" when solar flares consume the earth. You have, kindly, opened a portal, for certain people. I am not sure why but I am of the opinion you need to stop the solar flares. You seem more than capable of doing that, why not do it?
Jackson's a good person and does not deserve destruction, nor does the earth. It would be nice if you explored the roots of cancer and discovered who is responsible for it.
