Susan, This is a very nicely written rhyming poem you have penned for the contest. You used very good descriptive words and very lovely imagery from the art work you chose. Best wishes in the contest! love and blessings, Teri

This romance poem, Lettre d' Amour, presented in iambic heptameter and ABCB quatrains, describes in eloquent wording the contents of a well-worded letter to one who is held in high regard.

Beautifully written Susan. The language is superb, the rhyme and flow near perfect, and the theme excellent. This form is normally called ballad form, in tetrametric/trimetric stanzas, in 8686. Abcb rhyme. Many old hymn were written in this style, (amazing grace being one) it dates back a lot further than 1987. HNY, Blessings, Roy
Suggestion Avowal('s) testament.

This is a poem that flows well in classic 8/6/8/6 ballad meter, with an abab rhyme scheme. I think your author note may need amending!
You make most effective use of internal rhyme and assonance throughout the poem, as in lines such as:
"sweet lover's plea soon beckons me,"
and
"Though gilded quill deep passions spill ..."
You might consider the grammar glitch that 'quill...spill' brings to mind. Should it not either be 'quills spill" or 'quill spills'?
I had difficulty with the meaning of these two lines:
"By happenstance nor flit romance
should twin flames merge as one."
I think that you are saying that the flame that ignites, annealing two people together eternally, neither happens by chance nor in brief encounters.
The overall effect of your poem is quite lovely when read aloud. The iambic rhythm is perfect, except in the first line, '...guiding my days,' where the emphasis on 'guiding' is trochaic. This trochaic inversion has the effect of emphasising the word 'guiding', as you may have intended. It is a device that is quite frequently used in verse, especially at the beginning of a new line.

Hi Tony!! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas..and best wishes for the New year!
Thank you for leaving me such a wonderful review too.
I'm just a little confuse on some things...This is a form by Richard W. Jenkins 8/6...
Also, I think this is probably a dumb question...but what does quill and spill bring to mind?
Yes, the first line is off ( not Iambic) but this form doesn't require it,only that if flows..
    more in pm...

This is a great contest entry, Susan. It is filled with super rhymes and a great message. Your lines flow smoothly. The message is clear, too. I like the art you chose to pair with your well-chosen words. This surely will be a contender. Great job and best wishes. Jan
