As soon as I started reading this delightful story, I was immediately transported from my own reality into the basement, feeling 7 again and part of the world you describe in such gorgeous, elaborate, detail. Not only about the basement itself and the amazing transformation your incredibly creative father turned the basement into, all the changes he continued to make, but also how you as children experienced it all.
Wonderful, great story, filled me with joy and nostalgia, as look back to my own youth with similar memories of my father and grandfather.

You have done a fine job of PUTTING US THERE in that Chicago bungalow's basement. It is interesting to see how it evolved over the years. Especially noteworthy is your description of the candy room. You might want to proofread as there are some errors (e.g.--"study" instead of "sturdy" legs).
