That would make you Totie Fields. She was a large comedian in the seventies. This is an excellent contest entry and will do well in the voting booth. Good luck.

Dear Thomas, thank you for your review and the five stars. 1870s I would say. I love the Music Hall singers of them thar days way back when. They would belt out a song, usually very tunefully and drown out the orchestra. I haven't heard of Totie Fields. I must look her up on Google A treat in store. thanks again cheers Cass

This song parody of When I Was a Lad, When I Was a Lass, is very funny and I'm sure would sound great when sung out loud. Dis you know I am the very model of a modern major general?

Dear Bill, Thank you for your review and the five stars. The other song you refer to is from The Pirates of Penzance and is a very clever piece. The person who sings it must be very quick ad accurate in their speech and pronunciation. One mistake and you're lost. thanks again cheers Cass

I think you've done a good job with this, although I don't know that particular tune. it's clever and funny, as I imagine the original song was from the way you described it. Well done!

Dear Carol, Thank you for your review and the five stars. The song "When I was a lad" is from HMS Pinafore by Gilbert and Sullivan. It has a typical rollicking melody to it and I invite you find it and enjoy it for yourself. cheers Cass

I have to admit I have never heard the real song. I thoroughly enjoyed your parody, the lyrics are amusing and it entertained me. Nice job. Good luck in the contest.

Dear Earl, Thank you for your review and the five stars. It would be nice if you sought this particular piece out and listened to it.
It has a delightful merrigoround lilt to it, that cries out for someone to play with it. When I was a Lad from HMS Pinafore by Gilbert and Sullivan. Do look it up and enjoy. cheers Cass

Love it! You have the style to a T. You've even managed a couple of excruciating rhymes that G and S would have delighted in. You tempt me to dig out the original and listen to it again.

Dear Tony, Well why don't you? I love Gilbert and Sullivan. The Mikado is another favorite of mine. And what about "The Pirates of Penzance"? Gorgeous !! Their satire is brilliant and timeless. thanks again cheers Cass

I enjoyed it immensely.. I think you see why.
Well penned but why Ladee? Not lady?
I am not sure I know the original but it seemed to fit well with the humorous repetition
Well done
Happy New Year
God bless

Dear Kiwijenny, thank you for your review and the five stars. The reason for expressing lady as ladee is to emphasis the last syllable. This was a frequent practice in Victorian times so I have followed suit. The tune is a typical, rollicking G&S melody. I invite you to look for it and enjoy. Gilbert & Sullivan's HMS Pinafore. "When I was a Lad". cheers Cass
