MERRY CHRISTMAS Y.M. Rodger: I like your posting here in that it is brief, clear, and to the point. In just five lines and a few words you have expressed a complete story in a witty imagery-stroking manner. This has been very well crafted. It has given me something that I can feel. Good work, Y.M. Rodger. God bless you. Cordially: rhonnie69.

This concise piece is so moving, heart-wrenching--depicting such
a common scene. I know they must feel invisible sometimes
and lose hope. Excellent!

Beautiful poem about something that is difficult to realize and view. The photo is daunting and fits to the words perfectly. Thank you for showing something that is a reality in our world for a contest entry. Good luck in the contest. Cheers, Fonda

I like your use of shadows and light in this one. Your metaphor of the homeless as shadows is a good one. My mind is soaring with possibilities. They are shadows of themselves. They are not defined entities, almost invisible to the public's eye. The public refuses to look closely to see individuals instead of shadows. I could go on.

This poem is succinct and powerful. It makes a public statement, and it is timely. Most importantly, it is well crafted. If it does not do well in the contest, I don't know what judges are looking for.

Wow - thanx for the detailed review -- so good to know that it touched you in the manner intended. :) :) I'm just gonna go with the 'not holding my breath' route on the rest! :) ;) You are such a 'positive' influence in my writing, MQ -- and for that, I thank you tremendously! :) :) In conjunction with my work's message here, I'll simply conclude with my 'general' closing for this piece: Be sure to spare a prayer or more for all those in need especially during this holiday season and have a very warm and wonderful time with family and friends -- celebrate life!! :) ;) :) Yvette :)

A clever 5-liner here and your words are poignant and wise. Our eyes are often blinkered to poverty and deprivation, your words resonated with me, love Dolly x

A very well-written five-line poem about the people that have to hide in darkness to be less visible to those who judge them for what they do not have instead of trying to help them in their need.

Hi Yvette, Images like these can be so strong and words like yours are so evocative. It's like having a really nice white-meat chicken salad, then adding some walnuts and red grapes. Suddenly you have something lucuous! Viola, Yvette!

Where there is love there is redemption. No one is perfect everyone sins, many are lost in the world to drugs, or to a perverted nature, but they all have forgiveness all they have to do is ask and mean it. This is a good entry for the 5 line poem. Thank you for sharing Yvette.

This is pretty deep for a simple five line-poem, Yvette.
People gotta understand that the homeless are people too with feelings, wants, needs, hopes and dreams--just like us.
Happy Holidays.
Good luck in the contest.

Wasn't trying to be 'too deep'...just a contest entry from a part of me, I suppose. :) :) Seemed to be timely during the holiday season. Hope you don't think I was putting the homeless down in any way as others have ... as there is certainly none of such in any way shape or form, especially from the author's point of view. Thank you for stopping in, Sir Dean -- always appreciate your unique and experienced input! :) :) Have a very warm and wonderful time with family and friends -- celebrate life!! :) ;) :) Yvette :)

    Oh, no, Yvette.
I didn't feel you disrespected the homeless in the least.
I commend you for expressing these sentiments, it should be done more often.
    Kudos...

This is great. Each word carefully placed, has meaning and is profound. I love it all. The starkness of the presentation. The white on black, centered lettering. All give it a deep and thought-provoking message. I love the phrase, "clothed in donations" I've never heard it said so well before. I love the upbeat last two lines which, explains what those in the shadows, seek. The title and the line above are well chosen, and add much substance, for the bleak yet hopeful, souls. Well written and timely. Thank you so much for caring.
Take care, Jesse

    Hi Yvette
I am glad you find value in my pointing out the parts I love best. During this rainy and cold season, I think often about the homeless who have no clean, warm and dry clothes to put on after a squall of rain. I volunteer for a local homeless newspaper throughout the year. I write poetry for them and distribute their newspapers in several locations every week. I wish you, also, a warm and happy time with friends and family. My celebration of life is quiet and serene, with my two cats sitting on each side of me, while I watch the sunrise and listen to soft music. I hope your celebration of life is wonderful and full of magical mysteries.
    Jesse
